The long-awaited dream of a gym at Bordwell Park will finally become a reality. The recent groundbreaking and naming ceremony drew community members, leaders, and supporters together for a celebration filled with pride and anticipation. The gymnasium will be named in honor of long time Riverside resident and community activist Dell Roberts.

Recently at the George Ingalls Equestrian Event Center (GIEEC) located in Norco history was made. Charlie Sampson, the first and only African-American to win the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) World Championship Bull Rider Title hosted his first rodeo at the GIEEC. Sampson, who won his World Championship Bull Rider Title back in 1982 looks as if he can still compete despite being retired.

Leaders of eight legacy civil rights organizations today issued the following joint statement in response to the current administration’s immigration raids and the responsive protests in the Los Angeles area:

“We stand in full and urgent solidarity with California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and the residents of Los Angeles during this alarming moment. The federal government’s decision to federalize the State National Guard in Los Angeles, against the protestations of the Governor and against Mayor Bass’s urging, is deeply disturbing. It is reckless and creates the possibility of greater rights violations endangering residents.
