What an incredible day at the Young Women’s Leadership Conference: Amplifying Our Voices Through the Power of Media at KVCR/SBVC!

Three of our students took part in filmmaking and journalism workshops, heard from inspiring leaders including former California State Senator Connie M. Leyva and California Labor Commissioner Lilia Garcia-Brower, and even had the opportunity to meet California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond!

They also came home with some fun raffle prizes, an extra bonus to an already meaningful day!

A quote from Senator Leyva that will stay with us: “Don’t just looks for opportunities for a seat at the table, look for opportunities to LEAD the table...and bring other women with you.”

We are so proud of these young women and the voices they are learning to use with confidence.

The First Amendment protects five essential freedoms: religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.

For Constitution Day, the Tyro Times staff came together to share the words behind the rights that make student journalism, and so many voices in our community, possible.

A free press helps keep people informed. Know your rights. Use your voice.

Congratulations to our athletes of the week: Alejandro Lopez and Lizzet Sotelo.

Alejandro is the defensive backbone for the water polo team. His 23 saves, 7 steals, 7 assists, and 3 goals have been indispensable to the team's excellent start this season.

Also contributing outstanding leadership this year, Lizzet has captained the tennis team to a phenomenal early season record. Last week, she went undefeated in her doubles matches helping the team to a victory over West Valley.

Nice going Cardinals! Your teammates, coaches, and school are all very proud of you.

September 14 SBHS had a blood drive in the gym. Cardinals donated blood to the hospital. We spoke to a couple of the staff members: Vomira, who was there to train new staff of the hospital, said "We have a shortage at the hospital" for blood. Paola is a new staff learning how to work. We also interviewd a student, David, who said, "I always wanted to do this and I'm a senior so I decided to do it my last year."
