On Saturday, March 2nd the San Diego Seals Lacrosse team invited local tribes to the the Pechanga arena to bring awareness to the Every Child Matters initiative. Tribal members were given free tickets and some allowed to participate during intermission activities. It was a historic night as Tribes got to see an amazing game where the San Diego Seals faced off against the Toronto Rock!

The Every Child Matters initiative's goal is to bring awareness to the atrocities of the Indian Boarding School policies that ravaged both Native Americans and First Nations people. This initiative seeks to bring light to those events and help with reparations, awareness, and honor those survivors of the atrocities. Each purchase of the Every Child Matters shirts through the online the NLL will honorably donate to the Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) in Canada and the Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) In the United States.

On February 27, 2024 Discovery Park in Chula Vista has been renamed to Kumeyaay Park. Kumeyaay (Iipay/Tipay) are the first peoples in the San Diego region, with original territory extending into Baja California. The park was originally named Discovery Park, in recognition of Christopher Columbus. In 2020 the statue of Christopher Columbus was removed after vandalism. In 2021 Chula Vista City council voted to ensure the statue not be reinstalled.

These efforts were led by many groups, including Kanap Kuahan Coalition with support from Kumeyaay leaders.

VIDEO LINK IN COMMENTS!!!

On January 27, 80 participants all met and ran 20 miles from the Quechan community center to the edge of a gold mining operation recently approved by the Burea of Land Management. These participants ran in solidarity to show their dissatisfaction for the decision to mine on sacred land, and to remind others to always protect the sacred.

Haawka, Miiyuyum, Miyaxwen, Miyaxwe. Thank you for tuning in and showing your support for our news broadcast in 2023. This program has been primarily funded by the dedicated volunteer hours of the Condor Visual Media staff and a fellowship program provided by our partners at CSA.

Tribal Nations News is dedicated to highlighting the truths within our diverse Tribal Nations in Southern California. Throughout this endeavor, we have documented and produced 30 short videos, aired one broadcast episode, and provided hands-on training to one apprentice, equipping them with the necessary skills to create their own videos.

We strongly believe in providing education and news without advertisements. Our commitment to truth and inclusivity remains unwavering. As we continue to invest in and expand this venture, we welcome and value guidance and constructive criticism. Navigating the complexities of our diverse communities is not an easy task, but it is a privilege to document and preserve remarkable moments in time. The actions we take today will be remembered as history a hundred years from now, and as the saying goes, you are the ancestors of the future, so let us do what is right.

Our fellow and TNN Co-Director, Levi Anthony Hill, has been learning alongside the co-owners of Condor Visual Media, Andrew James Pittman and Lisset Valencia-Pittman. Levi initially volunteered for three months and then transitioned into a fellowship program with a grant from the Climate Science Alliance. Levi has demonstrated significant growth in camera operation and video editing skills. He is a proud member of the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel.
