Maybe mushrooms have never been something you thought much about..
And then you hear a conversation like this and suddenly an entire world opens up. Honestly, that is exactly what we wanted Talks 21 to be.
Conversations that widen your perspective and make it a little harder to see the world as a collection of separate things.
Andrew Carter describes this beautifully when talking about fungi. Sometimes, to understand a single mushroom, you need to understand the tree beside it, the insects around it and the soil beneath it. The mushroom only really makes sense as part of the whole ecosystem.
And throughout the episode, we discovered many more ideas like this: that fungal tissue can be found almost everywhere in plant life, that fungi help make nutrients available in soil, and that learning about mushrooms can become a gateway to understanding much larger ecological systems.
