I captured the illusive giant full moon on September 7th rising behind San Miguel Mountain and the broadcasting antennae for TV and radio stations across San Diego!

The series of over 1,000 images were photographed almost 20km away from the San Miguel mountain using a telescope and astronomy cameras ⛰️ this distance and magnification together help create that illusion where the moon appears bigger than usual due to it being so low on the horizon.

explained this effect in depth in her recent reels which inspired me to attempt photographing this. Make sure to give her a follow and stay tuned for the next astronomy phenomena!

This one is for you!

If your mind gets lost in cosmic wonder everytime you look up...

If you're constantly trying to catch a glimpse of moonlight instead of keeping your eyes on the road...

If a bright moon brings you inspiration, love, and tranquility...
..then this one is for you!

Ever wondered what it looks like when two galaxies collide? 🌌

What you're looking at is the Whirlpool Galaxy (Messier 51), a spectacular cosmic collision of two galaxies across the vastness of space. Located around 23 million light-years away, M51’s spiral arms are a spectacle of stars, dust, and gas, all swirling under the gravitational pull of its companion galaxy, NGC 5195. This celestial interaction has been ongoing for millions of years, slowly pulling these galaxies together in an epic galactic merger.

As the galaxies interact under their mutual gravitational pull, we get a glimpse into the fascinating processes that drive galaxy formation and evolution. What's even more mind-blowing? The light you're seeing has been traveling for millions of years, offering a snapshot of the universe long before humanity was even a thought.

To witness this cosmic dance from a small corner in the mountains of San Diego, is a humbling reminder of just how immense and awe-inspiring the universe truly is. 🌌

Comet 2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas) rising above the eastern mountains of San Diego, California. After seeing all the hype and clickbait on the "Comet of the Century", I had to see this visitor myself. Yes, it was visible without equipment. Seeing this giant streak of light across the horizon with the warm colors of the sunrise painting the sky was truly neat. But it really wasn't as impressive as C/Neowise in 2020. Maybe those on the Southern equator were able to witness a more impressive show since it is very low on the horizon for us. Comet-gazers in Chile, for example, were able to easily see the comet in the night sky making it appear even more bright.

Stay tuned for mid-October. There will be another opportunity to see this cosmic visitor right after sunset instead of sunrise! Maybe I'll host some type of event...

Spent the night out in the mountains waiting for a comet to rise above the horizon this morning β˜„οΈ although I did get to see it with the naked-eye, I don’t know if it’s as impressive as the comet we saw back in 2020 (Neowise). The window to see C/2023 Tsuchinshan/Atlas A3 is VERY small because as soon as it rises above the horizon, the sun is also rising making the sky brighter.

Right now the comet is going around the sun and will come out the other side in mid-October. This is when it’ll be easily seen after sunset πŸŒ…

Have you ever seen a comet before?

While I waited for the comet to be visible, I was able to capture a few hours of data on the Pleiades star cluster and the Andromeda Galaxy 🌌 results coming soon this week!
