On July 29, 2025, at approximately 4:24 p.m. PDT, an 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
In response, a Tsunami Watch has been issued for the West Coast of the United States, including San Diego, California, as a precautionary measure.
The National Tsunami Warning Center is actively monitoring ocean wave activity and will provide updates if the watch is upgraded or canceled. As of now, no evacuation orders have been issued for Southern California, but residents are urged to stay alert for official updates.
