🦚 Art Nouveau Peacock-Eye Stained Glass — 1903

The Jakab and Komor Square Synagogue in Subotica, Serbia, completed in 1903, is one of the finest surviving examples of Hungarian Art Nouveau religious architecture. Designed by architects Marcell Komor and Dezső Jakab, its richly ornamented interior includes magnificent stained-glass windows, such as this striking design inspired by the eye of a peacock feather.

With its flowing floral forms, vibrant colors, and intricate glasswork, the window perfectly captures the elegance and organic beauty of the Art Nouveau movement. After decades of neglect, the synagogue underwent extensive restoration and reopened in 2018, now serving as an important cultural and concert venue.
