Having and maintaining a credit score is a major component of your adult life. This is why it is important for you to understand what it is and how to check it!😎
When you first start out, your credit score will fluctuate with every payment and new debt you get. 📈📉As you establish your score, these fluctuations occur less often. As a result, you want to make sure you are diligent about having a good score when you start as it will be tougher to change it significantly later on!
How is it calculated?
1. 🌎History - 1 missed payment can hurt your score a lot. Make sure to make all your payments!
2. 💳Credit utilization - let’s say your credit limit is $10,000 and you have $4,500 on your card. Your current credit utilization is 45%. While this is not bad, you want to keep this below 30%.
3. 🏦Average account age - keep your accounts open as long as possible, even if you aren’t using them.
4. 🚗🏠🚌Credit Mix - lenders want to see you have good payment history with all types of accounts (CC, car loan, mortgage, etc)
5. ❓❔❓New inquiries - how often are you asking to borrow money? The more often you are, the higher a risk you are to a lender.
Keep all these in mind and you will know how you can maintain and improve your score!📈
