Hello, readers and writers!

As many of you know, River City Siren Press is a small press publishing company based in Colonial Heights, Virginia. As far fewer of you know, we have dreamed of opening an independent bookstore/ game store since we first got married. Long before we started the press, we dreamed of having a safe place for nerds and readers to congregate, make merry, and be themselves. We will sell indie books, popular/ trad books, and small press books.

I am a reader, publisher, and writer. Through River City Siren Press, I have learned so much about this market, and I know that we have what it takes to last in this ever-changing business landscape. I remember when a corporate bookstore near us (one of only two bookstores in the tri-city area) hosted events for readers. That time has come and gone, and we want to revive the bookish community in the 804. I miss the camaraderie of a thriving book community.

What will we offer?
Books--lots and lots of good books (indie and trad)
Board games (indie and trad)
Board game nights
Poetry readings
Midnight book releases
Book club spaces (and scheduling assistance)
Author signings and readings
Creative Writing Workshop
Space for nerdy events!
A beautiful storefront filled with every bit of love we have!

Where will we be?
Colonial Heights or Hopewell, VA

Why are we raising money?
We are well aware we will likely need a small business loan to make this dream a reality, and we are prepared for that. However, every bit of crowdfunding helps this dream become a reality faster and with less hurdles. Even if you are not local, please consider donating to ensure small bookstores/ indie bookstores continue to have a space in all communities.

An update from Jacob Hubbard:

So Amazon takes FOREVER to get any book from IngramSpark into their system. This means that based on the current logistical nightmare I'm dealing with right now, the paperback version of Sounds of Yesterday won't be ready for it's Nov. 19 release date ON AMAZON (the ebook version is not affected by this). I'm currently working on trying to get this resolved in time, but the distribution is being a real pain in the ass and this issue is making it likely that it won't be resolved in time.

However, the good news is the paperback version will be available in Barnes & Noble by its release date no problem. Worse case scenario, if this issue doesn't get resolved in time, the paperback version will be available on Amazon at a later date, but available at Barnes & Noble and other participating indie bookstores who agree to carry the book. For now, Barnes & Noble will be the way to go. Barnes & Noble is better than Amazon anyway (LOL).

I will be spending the next two years at minimum trying to go to as many festivals and bookstores to promote this book, so the bright side is this issue (in the long run) will likely turn out to be a minor annoyance more than anything else but won't be significant in the long term.
