Fantastic ... Music for Peace by Paul Lloyd Warner plays for the Humpbacks!!!
Dear Facebook Friends,
I would like to share one of the greatest moments of my life, the day I played piano music for Humpback Whales at sea.
The time was February, 1976. I was living in Maui, Hawaii and was invited to participate in the making of a film about communication between humans and whales.
The question was: Will whales respond to music when they hear it in the ocean? What would be their response and how can we interpret it correctly?
So, we outfitted a 70 ft. sloop named the Searunner with a white grand piano tied down in the middle of the boat. We had a powerful amplifier, microphones placed over the strings of the piano, underwater loudspeakers (borrowed from the Navy), two divers to film the action underwater, a whole crew, and of course, me.
We sailed toward the Molokai Channel and quickly spotted a few Humpback Whales. The sails were taken down, the loudspeakers were lowered underwater, cameramen jumped into the water to film. While I played, the whales were turning somersaults and it appeared as though they were dancing an underwater ballet. It was very beautiful.
When the divers came up to change their film, they exclaimed: “This is amazing, they are actually dancing.” For the first time, it was proven that Humpback Whales responded to music and I am happy to share this story with you - one of the most magical moments of my life. Thank You.
