Over four decades, Matthew C. Strauss (1933-2024) built a world-class collection of contemporary art together with his wife of 70 years, Iris Strauss. Featuring work by Frank Stella, Nick Cave, Damien Hirst, Mickalene Thomas, Lari Pittman, Robert Rauschenberg and more.

Artist Takashi Murakami 村上隆 is certainly having a moment. In addition to his collection with Louis Vuitton featuring Zendaya, his latest shows open in Cleveland and NY. But you don't have to travel that far to see his whimsical, pop-infused Superflat work at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Featured in "An Artful Life," now on view through August 3. And don't forget to "exit through the gift shop" for Murakami-inspired delights.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego unveiled "A Burial in Shanghai" featuring an epic cycle of large scale paintings by the Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming, one of the world's most celebrated figurative painters. Three monumental canvases are presented in the U.S. for the first time following their debut at Paris’s famed Musée d’Orsay in 2019. On view through January 2026.
