Tonight is the second episode of David Frost Vs.. of which I served as Associate Producer!

Tonights episode is one of my favorites of the six which focuses on Muhammad Ali and draws on the many interviews Sir David Frost conducted with him from 1968-2002 when Ali was suffering the severe effects of Parkinsons. This is a powerful and emotional episode

STAX: Soulsville U.S.A wins the prestigious Peabody Award

The last few months have truly been very special for me and my company, Reelin’ In The Years Productions. In March I attended the premiere at South By Southwest of the documentary film I was an Executive Producer on, The Makings Of Curtis Mayfield, produced by Peter Afterman and directed by OSCAR and GRAMMY award-winning artist, H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson) Then, a few weeks ago I was in New York to attend the launch of the six part documentary series David Frost Vs.

I was honored to serve as associate producer on this unique series produced by White Horse Pictures and Sir David Frost’s son, Wilfred who like his late father, is a respected journalist, Wilfred invited me to join him at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to ring in the opening bell and celebrate the US premiere of this series on MSNBC. This may very well be the first time in history that a documentary film was honored on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

As if this wasn’t amazing in so many ways, today we found out that STAX: Soulsville U.S.A., the 4 part documentary series for which I served as one of the Co-Executive producers, won (yes, won!) the prestigious Peabody Award!!!!!

From The Peabody Awards website. “Respected for its integrity and revered for its standards of excellence, the Peabody is an honor like no other for television, podcast/radio, and streaming media. Chosen each year by a diverse Board of Jurors through unanimous vote, Peabody Awards are given in the categories of entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s and youth, and public service programming. The annual Peabody winners are a collection of stories that powerfully reflect the pressing social issues and the vibrant emerging voices of our day. From major productions to local journalism, the Peabody Awards shine a light on the Stories That Matter and are a testament to the power of art and reportage in the push for truth, social justice, and equity. The Peabody Awards elevate stories that defend the public interest, encourage empathy with others, and teach us to expand our understanding of the world around us.”

I’d like to offer MAJOR Congratulations to Jamila Wignot who directed this important film, Producer Caroline Waterlow, series producer Kara Elverson and Ines Farag who handled the intense task of footage & photo research on this 4 part series. Also I’d like offer huge congrats to Sophia Dilley and Michele Smith for Concord Originals who have been such champions for this music and the artists who made it.

Of course I would not be involved in STAX: Soulsville U.S.A were it not for my dear friends and colleagues Nigel Sinclair, Nicholas Ferrall, Jeanne Elfant Festa and Cassidy Hartmann of White Horse Pictures, who have brought me into their world of incredible filmmaking, not just with this series, but so many other critically acclaimed and award-winning documentaries. I’m excited to continue my relationship with them on many other special films currently in production.

STAX: Soulsville U.S.A was also just nominated for the FOCAL Award in the category of Best Use Of Footage In A Music Production. Of the archive used in this series, at least 60% of the footage was licensed from Reelin’ In The Years Productions!

Congratulations to everyone involved in the making of this series film and I truly am proud to be associated with such an amazing group of talented people.

For the last 11 years, Reelin’ In The Years Productions (RITY) has been exclusively representing the archive of Sir David Frost whose broadcasting career spanned 50 years until his untimely passing in 2013. To date, RITY has built an archive containing thousands of hours of in-depth interviews that were conducted by Sir David Frost with the world’s leading politicians, celebrities, musicians and comedians.

Wilfred Frost,“I met David Peck and partnered with him in 2014, a year after Dad died. He has been totally central to everything we’ve done with The David Frost Archive since, and without him and his team at Reelin’ In The Years Productions, huge swathes of Dad’s work wouldn’t be restored and available in the way that it is today. He is the ultimate archivist—extraordinarily passionate about what he does and the footage he represents; always putting my interests first; while also commercially savvy and maximising the value of the footage we have.”

In early conversations with RITY, Wilfred stated it was his goal was to make a film to honor his father’s legacy so as RITY was busy locating, transferring and fully cataloging various tape formats stored around the globe, Wilfred was looking for the right production team to make his vision of a series focused around the interviews his dad conducted, a reality.

For a number of years Wilfred Frost was speaking with various potential directors and production companies to find the right person for his vision but it wasn’t until 2019 when David Peck (President of Reelin’ In The Years Productions) introduced him to Nigel Sinclair & Cassidy Hartmann of Whitehorse Pictures that this project started to come together. For many years David Peck has worked very closely with Whitehorse on numerous films and served as Executive Producer on The Bee Gees, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” and as one of the Co-Executive Producers on a multi-part documentary series on the famed record Memphis record label, “STAX: Soulsville USA” which was recently nominated for a Peabody Award. RITY is involved in a number of other documentaries with Whitehorse currently in production.

Sometime in late 2021/early 2022 Wilfred Frost & Whitehorse Pictures signed a deal with Sky Arts to produce a six part series entitled David Frost Vs.. and for the last three years many talented people have worked hard to bring this unique program to fruition. David Peck of Reelin’ In The Years Productions not only served as Associate Producer but made sure all of the selected footage got into the production and since these six part series are primarily from the Sir David Frost library, there was an rather large amount of archive to send over.

The series first premiered on Sky Arts in February and it will now make it’s debut in the states on MSNBC Sunday, April 27 and continue for the 5 Sundays after that. David Frost Vs.. is very unique as each 50 minute episode centers around a subject and primarily utilizes the interviews Sir David has conducted over the years along with new interviews filmed for this series.

Wilfred Frost has carried on his father’s legacy in broadcasting when in 2014, he joined CNBC as the co-anchor of Worldwide Exchange and in 2018, Wilfred became co-anchor of CNBC’s Closing Bell. Since 2022 he has been based in London working for Sky News but also continues to work with NBC/CNBC as a contributor.

On April 14th David Peck of Reelin’ In The Years Productions was invited joined Wilfred Frost at the New York Stock Exchange to ring in the opening bell and celebrate the premiere on MSNBC of this unique six part series, David Frost Vs..

David Peck, President of Reelin’ In The Years Productions “It was a joyous experience to help Wilfred achieve his goal of honoring his father’s incredible legacy and body of work. To be invited to stand beside him ringing in the Opening Bell on the New York Stock Exchange is one of those moments in life where you ask yourself “how did I get here?” I can’t be sure but it’s quite possibly the first time in the history of the stock market that a documentary film was honored in this way.”

Wanna give a big shout to my friend of 25 years, Mr. Steven Van Zandt and give big congrats on his new doc (“Disciple”) that airs tonight on HBO. We at Reelin’ In The Years Productions were happy to provide some footage to his film including this INCREDIBLE live performance of the anti-apartheid song “Sun City” with his guests, Living Colour. Not only is this song such a powerful protest of a dark chapter in history but damn, what a powerful performance.

Reelin’ In The Years Productions signs an exclusive representation deal with two major interview archives spanning nearly 60 years.
Reelin’ In The Years Productions, the premier source for footage of musical artists, entertainers and history makers is proud to announce it has signed a deal to exclusively represent the rights to thousands of audio interviews contained within two prestigious archives, Rockline and Rock’s Backpages.

ROCKLINE
Rockline, a nationally syndicated live radio interview program that aired from 1981 – 2014, featured interviews with rock & roll’s leading artists. The archive contains over 2,200 episodes and nearly 3,000 guests. Rockline’s unique format allowed the listeners to call in live and ask questions which was an invaluable tool to connect fans with their Rock & Roll heroes. The host, Bob Coburn, was dubbed The Godfather of Rock & Roll due to his unrivaled knowledge of music. Because of his knowledge, and the respect that the artists gave him, Rockline became an important and influential program, which was awarded Billboard Magazine’s “Best Syndicated Show” over 10 times.

Rockline featured a wide array of talent including such iconic artists as Bob Dylan, Guns & Roses, U2, Elton John, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Aerosmith, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Cheap Trick, Allman Brothers, Heart, Rush, Van Halen, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Paul McCartney, Green Day, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Pat Benatar, & Soundgarden.

When Lynette Bishop Coburn, Managing Director for Rockline was asked to elaborate on the archive and why she chose Reelin’ in the Years Productions to represent this library, she replied “Bob Coburn’s interviews on Rockline are an essential part of rock music history. We are thrilled to collaborate with Reelin’ in the Years Productions. David Peck and his team are renowned for their extensive archives of music and entertainment footage. This collaboration will ensure that Rockline’s invaluable interviews with iconic music artists are preserved and shared allowing their legendary voices to be heard for generations to come through documentaries, television programs, streaming services and other media platforms.”

ROCK’S BACKPAGES
The Rock’s Backpages audio archive contains thousands of in-depth audio interviews conducted by legendary music journalists from the 1960s– today. These unique recordings were never intended to be heard by the public at large and were usually recorded on a portable device such as a cassette recorder. As these interviews were not conducted for broadcast media, the artists were far less guarded and offered candid reflections and personal insights, whereas in interviews for public consumption they might be less forthcoming.

One of the many unique aspects to this archive is that it not only contains interviews with music’s biggest artists of the last 60 years, but there are many interviews with important non-performers such as songwriters, producers, engineers, record company executives, managers, rock photographers and other significant figures in the world of music.

Some of the thousands of audio recordings contained within this library include interviews with artists that sadly are no longer with us such as Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Sid Vicious (S*x Pistols), David Crosby, Keith Moon (The Who), James Brown, Freddie Mercury (Queen), Little Richard, Tom Petty, Marvin Gaye, Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead), Johnny Cash, George Michael, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Joey Ramone (Ramones), Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac), Joe Strummer (Clash), Sinead O'Connor, Maurice & Robin Gibb (Bee Gees), Donna Summer, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Luther Vandross, Frank Zappa, Mike Nesmith (Monkees), Merle Haggard, Walter Becker (Steely Dan), and Marc Bolan.

Speaking on their new business relationship, Jasper Bowie, Marketing & Communications Manager for Rock’s Backpages, commented, "We see in David Peck someone who shares our values in terms of archiving high quality, unique material from the annals of music history, so it's great to be able to work with him and Reelin' In The Years Productions to make our trove of exclusive audio available to more filmmakers and projects.”

David Peck, President Of Reelin’ In The Years Productions observed, “While we’ve been a leader in licensing music footage, in recent years, the value that audio interviews have brought to the documentary filmmaking community has been invaluable. Many recent directors have relied heavily on audio interviews to tell a deeper story in their films while using other imagery such as still images and stock footage to drive the narrative. Being able to offer the interviews from the Rockline & Rock’s Backpages archive will be a huge asset to the documentary filmmaking community.”

Reelin’ In The Years Productions (winner of FOCAL’s 2020 “Footage Library of The Year Award”) is the premier source for footage of musical artists, entertainers and history makers. Their unique archive houses over 30,000 hours of music footage spanning 100 years (which also includes interview and B-roll.) In addition to their one of a kind music footage archive, they also have available for licensing 10,000 hours of in-depth interviews with the 20th century’s icons of Film and Television, Politics, Comedy, Literature, Art, Science, Fashion and Sports. The interviews, filmed between 1952-2024, are from smaller interview based archives and also legendary talk shows around the world, including those hosted by Sir David Frost, Merv Griffin, Mike Wallace, Dennis Miller, Sir Michael Parkinson, Rick Dees and Brian Linehan.
