Hello from Los Angeles. I’m Hannah, a multidisciplinary artist originally from the midwest. My current practice leans heavily towards zines, printmaking, needlework and collage - but I’m always trying new things! I love learning and creating projects surrounding nature, animals and insects. I grew up outdoors in a rural area with a background in Appalachia but have now lived in this huge city for 15 years. I like exploring that tension and relationship as well as the contrast of my more luddite tendencies mixed with being chronically online and reminiscence for a time when technology felt more freeing than today.

JENN STEFFEY ZINES!

I am an AI-AP award-winning illustrator, zine maker and graphic designer working out of my house/studio in Normal Heights. I’ve shown work with the San Diego Art Institute, Bread & Salt, Visual Gallery, Art on 30th, The Spanish Village Art Center and the Hill Street Country Club in the San Diego area. In New York City, I have shown my work at the New York Public Library, American Museum of Natural History and Soho 20 Gallery.

My approach to my art is quick and expressive, using watercolor, gouache and ink to highlight subjects. This style lends to unique blending and bleeds, which can take on a life of their own. The uncertainty of the medium is what draws me to this style of image making. Once the image is finished it is scanned on a flatbed. There is some touch up on the computer, but 90% of the image is done analog.

John Dishwasher’s Zine revolves around the idea of “humans resisting dehumanization,” with the principal hook being it is totally legitimate to deliberately work as a part-time dishwasher and spend the rest of your time practicing art. John’s “Zine from the Future Describing the End of Civilization” was a finalist for Best Political Zine of 2021 at the Broken Pencil Zine Awards. His self-published novel “The Zinester Manifesto: A Novel of the Underground,” which is based on the SoCal zine scene, is the first-ever novel to feature an entire zine community.

Nini Chen is a Los Angeles–based, Cantonese illustrator whose zines explore the intersection of cultural memory, nature, and digital visual language. Her zines range from playful accordion books celebrating everyday subjects like plants and cats, to experimental risograph and transparent flip-film formats that reinterpret themes such as the 24 Solar Terms, plants, and fleeting moments like sunsets. Each piece is designed as an intimate, tactile object, inviting viewers to slow down and engage with small, poetic fragments of her illustrated universe.
