Maira Horta Life In Balance I am Maira, therapist and founder of Life in Balance Therapy. I am Brazilian and also offer therapy in Portuguese.

I am thrilled to share a culturally sensitive and unique therapeutic approach as an active participant in our sessions. And yes, that means, together, we will likely laugh, cry, discuss relationships, worries, fears, and/or self sabotaging but all in an effort to help you move forward into the person you know you can be. I work with adults, teens and families and have been in this field since 2006

, having conducting over 20 thousand sessions and assessments. My background includes EMDR, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, family systems therapy, expert witnessing, client advocacy, and four years as a career coach. I am inspired by social justice, children’s rights, native indigenous cultures and preservation, traveling, music and dance. I have been lucky to live, work and enjoy sunny San Diego since 1996.

Have you ever experienced a ‘silent panic attack’? 🧐

When we think of panic attacks, we often think of obvious symptoms like hyperventilating, suddenly leaving the situation, crying, or otherwise appearing panicked 🫨

These symptoms are completely valid & real and there’s nothing shameful about experiencing a visible, ‘obvious’ panic attack!

However, for those of us whose symptoms are more internal, having panic attacks that don’t look like panic attacks can feel confusing to navigate and symptoms sometimes can feel quite scary. 😦
