Nothing brings people together like food.

That’s what made today’s Taste of Adams Avenue so special. Yes, we were floored by the delicious eats — the perfect pizza dough tossed with love by the same person spinning tunes , the way that the best ice cream in America can taste just a little more amazing on a hot summers day; or the delight of a new item, like the elote nachos .

But the thing that really blows us away year after year is the community of people who come together to make this a reality. From the restaurants and their workers who band together to show off the best two miles of tastiness in San Diego to the community members who rush to buy tickets and make this event a sold out success every year — we’re one big happy community.

San Diego photographer and former U.S Navy sailor stumbled upon these forgotten frames at in 2019.

Thanks to his citizen sleuthing, he traced them back to U.S. Navy sailor Robert Montague — a photographer’s mate aboard the USS Essex during WW2.

“Edelman marveled at this snapshot of history through Montague’s eyes, his use of portholes , plane wings, and doorways to frame his compositions, and his ability to capture the intimate details of life in uniform 80 years ago.”

It's no surprise that was just nominated as the best camera store in San Diego.

The shop is stacked to the ceiling with beautiful vintage cameras. They process film quickly and to the highest quality. They even have a DIY Lab where you can develop and print your own work and a beautiful studio.

To top it off, its owners and are committed to making it a community space, evidenced by the gallery openings, print hangs and the open houses where they throw their doors open to the neighborhood.

Some major news from Uptown 11 Studios: today, we've launched a new platform for visual storytelling in San Diego called "Developing Stories." It's featured on the brand-new website we built for our friends at Safelight Labs. With their partnership, we'll spotlight San Diego's best photographers who develop and process their film at the company's Adams Avenue lab. Our first features include a Q&A with a photographer documenting San Diego's mom-and-pop shops and a post of my own, where I developed 10 canisters of film tucked away in a drawer in my home and unearthed long-lost memories.
