JMS Group 3 Analyzing the global economy through globalization and becoming a media studies student

Globalization: The World's Economy

Globalization has changed the world’s economy in the way people perform in diverse countries. Professor Nee (Journalism professor) talks about the global economy in the 21st century are characterized as the creative economy, innovation economy, new economy, and digital economy. Keeping in mind, there is a difference between the digital economy and old economy in

understanding how globalization affects the world’s economy. Simply, digital economy considers the most valuable form of currency is information and knowledge. Unlike the digital world, the old economy pertains to monetary currency such as gold. In the world of digital economy, the tools used to help operate jobs in our society are computers and internet broadband access. With the convenience of living in the digital economy, technology such as computers allows people to access information immediately all parts of the world. Of course, the digital economy requires more than just information but it needs innovation and creativity as well from computers and not fabricated by machines. The world’s economy is constantly changing due to globalization creating benefits for countries all over the world. In a nutshell, our world economy impacts all countries on their path to improve their people's lives. For instance in Greece, the United States bailout the country with a $40 billion loan as a way to recover from an economic crisis. If countries such as Greece fall in our global world, then it will follow a ripple of devastating countries. Only by supporting each other in an innovative age, can people set aside their differences to work together for a brighter future. Becoming media study students (description):

The Media Studies emphasis provides cutting-edge preparation for students seeking non-traditional careers in mediated communication. Changes in communication technologies and media industries have led to the emergence of career opportunities that did not exist a few years ago. Although rapidly developing technology created the need for this degree program, instruction is not technology-based. Rather, courses focus on mediated communication, how media industries generate messages aimed at particular audiences, the influence of media on culture, and vice versa, as well as the intellectual tools needed for graduates to excel in an ever-changing technological and business environment. The Media Studies major aims to encourage its students to develop an entrepreneurial spirit by using knowledge of media to create their own vision of "what could be" in the media world. The major seeks to accomplish this goal by providing students with an understanding of the media landscape, media industries and their audiences, and the role of culture in the interaction of industry and audience. The major also provides an opportunity to synthesize and integrate this knowledge through a capstone experience focusing on entrepreneurship.
