We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the Fifth Annual SD Hip Hop Health and Wellness 5k on November 7, 2021. The morning was filled with lots of excitement, laughter, sunshine and cool air as volunteers helped greet participants and special guests. We appreciate everyone's support and we were honored to have the San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, Councilmember Monica Montgomery Steppe, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera, and Mr. Harris Community Leaders in attendance.
We also appreciate the FANCY Teen Girls as they used their enthusiastic voices to cheer on participants at the finish line. We are also grateful for the Harvey Family Foundation for sponsoring a Kids Zone with an oversized obstacle course and laser tag zone. In addition, we extend our gratitude, as well, to the Soul Swapmeet (Founder Shala Waines), Sponsors, Vendors, CBS 8 San Diego, Channel933, The San Diego Voice & Viewpoint Newspaper, Videographers, Photographers and Drone Pilots for being such an integral part of this year’s race.
We would also like to acknowledge and congratulate the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place SD Hip Hop 5k winners. They are:
1st Sebastian Flynn Bessy Leszczynski
2nd Sidney Roberts Kassidy Jones
3rd Marc Montano Anna Baldridge
The SD Hip Hop Health and Wellness 5k & Festival was not meant to be a single event, but a starting point for the work that must be done to provide informative information about health and wellness for our community. We were fortunate to have a wide range of speakers to cover three Panels. The first Panel covered was a discussion about COVID 19 Awareness which was covered by Dr. Robinson M.D., Dr. HOOD M.D. and Dr. Kelley Elmore, M.D. MBA. Grammy Nominated Award Producers Mike & Keys and Unkle Dave spoke about The Art of Music Production, Managements and Marketing. Multi National Award Winner La'tesha Ni'cole Eturnul led a discussion about Overcoming Lupus along with a full panel of Lupus Survivors, Male Lupus Warriors, Lupus Foundation of Southern California, HofRCC, Vickie Bowers, and Dr. Runnells w/MHA.
Please note that planning has already begun for next year’s race and we look forward to seeing you all again next year! Follow our IG and Facebook: Hip Hop Health and Wellness 5k to get the latest news and information!
Thank you for making this day possible.
Debra Portee, Race Director/Co-Chair
