We are a 9/11 family. Every year that goes by, I think of my wife and daughter, and my neighbors in Tribeca, and all of the people who lost someone they love. Time goes by, yet we never forget. Thinking of you all today, in prayer, in solidarity, and in the hope that you know you’re never forgotten. Peace for today and all the days that follow. #9/11

The legendary Nichelle Nichols, best known as Uhura, in the first Star Trek series, all the way back in 1966, has just passed away at the age of 89.⁣

I can’t properly state how groundbreaking her role was. No Black woman ever had a starring role in a series so big and important - and her character was smart, strong, and liberated.⁣

Her playing Uhura broke the mold for what type of roles Black folk could have on screen and blew open the doors for so many actors and actresses to follow.

Soap was an American sitcom that ran on ABC from 1977, until 1981. It was created as a parody of daytime soap operas and was among the earliest American prime-time series to include an openly gay character as a part of the show. Many of the barriers Soap broke are things we easily accept today such as a gay son, gender fluidity, and q***r parenting. For many Americans however, the show was the first time these subjects had ever been brought to their attention. The show did well and what seemed like a potential disaster for LGBTQ+ representation, turned out to be a groundbreaking success story that paved the way for other LGBTQ+ shows like “Queer as Folk” and “The L Word” among others.

Born in Bologna Italy in 1874, Guglielmo Marconi was a true radio pioneer who invented the use of wireless telegraphy in the 1890’s. His invention laid the groundwork for wireless telephony which eventually became voice radio. His efforts were pivotal in the development of modern radio broadcasting. And while he’s credited for his achievements, other inventors like Nikola Tesla and Jagadish Chandra Bose also developed technologies critical to radio’s success - but without the fame enjoyed by Marconi. Come to the MBC, and learn more about the father’s of radio and their contributions to the world of broadcast communications. See you there!

DVD Performance N💿W AVAILABLE!!

"The Main Line" chronicles the life of the late Mahalia Jackson, the self-taught “Queen of Gospel”. Mahalia Jackson inspired some of the most popular music genres in the United States. She was the first gospel singer to perform at Carnegie Hall and was very active in the civil rights movement with the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the late Dr. Ralph Abernathy, and the late Representative John Lewis. We consider it an honor and a privilege to celebrate one of the world’s greatest gospel singers who ever lived.🎭

"The Importance of Being Earnest", a trivial Comedy for Serious People is play by Oscar Wilde, directed by Jennie Hamilton. First performed on 14 February 1895 at the St James's Theatre in London, a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Some contemporary reviews praised the play's humor and the culmination of Wilde's artistic career, while others were cautious about its lack of social messages. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make "The Importance of Being Earnest" Wilde's most enduring and popular piece.
The DVD performance of last summer's hit production from CAT is available this Thursday 3/17/22. Please call the box office at (619)581-2634 to reserve a copy.

How many of you saved this Cucumber Kimchi recipe and how many have you made it already?! It’s the number one recipe I keep getting tagged on. Ingredients are 8 Persian cucumbers, 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tbsp minced garlic, 4 green onion stalks, 1 small onion, 2 tbsp of gochugaru (red pepper powder) 2 tsp sugar, 1/4 cup rice vinegar, 1/4 sesame oil and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, but over night is best. I like to eat my cucumber kimchi with rice and grilled chicken or beef.
