Whether you witnessed this or not, the Tank Rampage in San Diego May 1995 would become one of the most bizarre and terrifying events in the city's history.
A troubled man stole a military tank from the armory of the California National Guard in Kearny Mesa and drove it through neighborhoods and freeways smashing vehicles like pancakes.
The day after it happened I talked with one of the San Diego police officers who jumped on top of the tank and pried the hatch open after the war machine got hung up on the center divider.
Thirty years later I caught up with him and the San Diego Police officer who fired the shot that eventually killed the driver and asked them about their decision to end the 23 minute long chase..
