Here at San Diego Mesa College I have preceded in cultivating a specialized multinational magazine that has adopted the title of the "World Literature Salon." Our mission is to create a medium that offers a voice for our fellow peers, not just in English, but in various languages of the world ! This will be a true reflection of the students that attend this college, and serve as a space to let e
verybody know that they are here and to show off their heritage ! The basic concept for this project is that, students attending Mesa College will submit either : poetry, fictional narratives, or even simply
share aspects/perspectives of a certain culture, (i.e. indigenous practices / political awareness), all within the language respective to that culture. To clarify, literary work will be submitted in a foreign tongue where it will then be published with an English translation parallel to the original script ! Students will have the option of translating the work themselves, which would then be reviewed, or work together with me in the salon that I will be hosting on campus. The languages included as of now are: French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, and Russian. Languages in the process of coverage : Farsi, Arabic, and Vietnamese. If you speak/write in these languages and are interested in being a part of this project, I still highly encourage your involvement ! Professors of these languages are being contacted as we speak, so that they can be included as well !
