I'll be traveling to Chicago soon to work on Nash's Journey: From El Barrio to Union Victory. It's an important part of Chicago history-- involving my father, Igancio, who was a union organizer in the 1980s while working for Greyhound Corporation. Ironically, they fired him (he was later reinstated with full back pay!), they fired the employees, and blocked their pensions! UAW Local 2144 filed a federal lawsuit to help get 19K employees their pensions back! Our crew is raising funds to continue telling this story. This is our next project. A historical slice of Chicago's labor movement. This story involves my father, Ignacio Castañeda, and his humble beginnings from a kid in the Barrio from El Paso, Texas, to the podium as President of UAW Local 2144. With my dad at the helm, 19,000 Greyhound Corporation workers got their pensions back after being fired by the company. The film is expected to be completed in 2026.
