People sometimes ask where the music started.
The truth is...
It didn't start with music.
It started with community.
A group of people who cared, created, and made each other feel seen.
The beats came later.

This is Episode 11 of my Creative Journal and the story behind The Boy Who Big Cried.

As a kid, creativity came naturally.

Then I became a teenager.

Fitting in mattered more than standing out.

Looking back, I don't think I lost my creativity.

I think I became embarrassed by it.

This is Episode 11 of my Creative Journal, where I break down the memories behind The Boy Who Big Cried and how creativity eventually found its way back into my life.

One of the best parts of making The Boy Who Big Cried wasn't finishing the book.

It was watching my kids want to create alongside me.

I've learned that creativity isn't something you teach with words.

It's something kids experience by watching us make things, make mistakes, and keep going.

This is Episode 10 of my Creative Journal.

As a kid, I wished I had special powers.

Looking back, I realized I wasn't looking for magic.

I was looking for somewhere for my feelings to go.

For me, that became storytelling, music, photography, and making art.

For some pages, the challenge isn't telling the story.

It's recreating the details that bring the memory back.

The phone.
The couch.
The little things that seem insignificant until decades later.

Because some memories live in events.

Others live in objects.

This is a behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating The Boy Who Big Cried by hand using cardstock, an X-Acto knife, and childhood memories.

When I got home, my parents thought something terrible had happened.

The truth is, I didn't know what happened.

Looking back, I don't think I was hiding anything.

I think I was experiencing feelings that I didn't yet have the words to explain.

And maybe that's true for a lot of kids.

This is Episode 9 of my Creative Journal series, where I revisit the memories behind The Boy Who Big Cried.

One of the biggest cries I remember from childhood happened after daycare.

The strange part?

Nothing bad happened.

A group of older kids invited me to play Ninja Turtles.

I loved Ninja Turtles.

But later that night, I completely broke down.

Looking back, I think this story says more about childhood emotions than it does about the Ninja Turtles.

This is Episode 9 of my Creative Journal series, where I break down the memories behind each page of The Boy Who Big Cried.

This page was one of the most challenging spreads in The Boy Who Big Cried.

The details mattered.

Facial expressions.
Objects.
Tiny pieces of paper.

Because memories aren't always remembered as complete pictures.

Sometimes they're remembered through details.

Bridge to Terabithia.

My First Sony.

Stacks of VHS tapes.

The 49ers on a giant cabinet television.

These aren't just memories.

They're the stories, songs, movies, and moments that stayed with me.

What's your version of this?

Not all of my crying came from bad things.

Sometimes it came from books.
Sometimes it came from music.
Sometimes it came from movies.
Sometimes it came from sports.

And for the first time, those emotions actually made sense to me.

This short is from The Boy Who Big Cried, a handmade children's book built from memory, family stories, and the moments that shaped me.
