We are pumped to announce the return of our SubtleBodyBigDance classes at San Diego Dance Theater! New day, new time, same sensation-based-improvisation-into-choreography-groovy-goodness. We created our first dance for the camera in 2008, so we had over a decade of practice and experience when the pandemic put our skills to the test as all programming moved into the digital sphere. This year, we have loved teaching students about the questions, considerations, and how-to's of the genre. On March 17, we're leading a workshop for the California Dance Education Association (CDEA) entitled "Digital Dance Making: Developing Student Creators." Gina Bolles Sorensen had the pleasure of teaching class for the Harvard-Radcliffe Modern Dance Company last night. While dancers and teachers everywhere are missing in-person class, there are perks to the Zoom world we live in at the moment, like teaching class in Massachusetts from sunny San Diego. We're thrilled to share that our dance film, KISSFIST, is an official selection for the Moving Body Festival in Varna, Bulgaria this November. We may not be able to travel around the world at the moment, but our dance film can! So cool!

Feels good to be back in a theater, even in a mask. We are super jazzed that The Rosin Box Project invited us to create a dance film out of a beautiful piece of their repertoire, "Crackerjack" by Carly Topazio. Kyle Sorensen toured the 10th Avenue Theatre today to make sure all of our ideas are possible. Creative juices be flowing!

We are missing they joy of dancing and discovering things with you every week. Thank goodness we live in a digital age while going through social distance and quarantine. Thanks to all of the organizations, companies, and teachers who are sharing resources so generously online! No choice but to find new ways to share the dance. All of this extra time at home has given us time to research dance film festivals around the world. We're excited to send KISSFIST out there and see if there are any bites!

Light up your imagination and get your body moving in SubtleBodyBigDance Contemporary Modern class tonight! Class meets 5:30-7 pm in Dance Place studio 106 tonight.

Also, CALL FOR DANCERS: plug the next San Diego Dance Theater studio showcase into your calendar! If you would like to perform in the Tuesday night dance, attend class for 8 consecutive weeks starting March 17, and stay just 30 mins after class to rehearse 7-7:30. If you would like to perform in the Thursday dance, after-class rehearsals will begin March 19. The performance is Saturday, May 9 in San Diego Dance Theater's White Box! We love making dances with you.
