Do you love local farmers markets? If so, you'll definitely want to check out Gabriela Perezmartinez's garden-fresh farm stand at the corner of North Walnut Avenue and East 3rd Street.

Every other Tuesday afternoon, Perezmartinez sets up what she calls "a little farmers market." It's part of her nonprofit Lucas Eden, which aims to tackle food insecurity by providing fresh, healthy and organic produce to community members, especially seniors. Teaming up with other local businesses and gardeners, Lucas Eden prevents food waste and donates part of its proceeds to Meals on Wheels.

A local Girl Scout troop sought donations from local businesses in order to throw a carnival for foster families in Pomona. Despite several rejections, the Juniors and Cadets didn’t give up before finally meeting Katie Mettert, the store manager at Five Below in San Dimas, who stepped forward with a donation to help make the event happen.

Girl Scout Marley Fejeran said Mettert’s generosity taught her about the power of kindness, especially from strangers.

“Without her, the event would [have been] much less than it was.”

A local coffee shop makes it a point to provide the community with a unique cafe experience and great food and drink.

"We kinda wanted to create that European vibe," Rail Side Cafe owner Jordan Nachbaur said. "All we need is cobblestones, and you'll feel like you're in Paris."

Rail Side Cafe, whose name is a nod to the city's railroading history, has become a staple for many residents and continues to be a distinctive place for locals to work, meet up or simply grab a coffee to go.

Dear friends of San Dimas Community Post:
Thank you for your readership, engagement and ongoing support.

As some of you may already know, Eric Nakano, owner/co-founder of the newspaper, has recently filed paperwork to run for San Dimas City Council. After discussing with other experts in the industry, we decided it was best to delay printing our next edition, scheduled for April 2022, in order to maintain the newspaper’s ethical integrity and reputation. Because we pride ourselves on limiting bias, we felt it necessary to take this step to ensure the community continues to trust our objectivity in reporting on city matters.

Maintaining the community’s trust is of the utmost importance in journalism. Because we want our readers to have confidence in the fair and balanced reporting by the San Dimas Community Post, we will pause printing until after the June election.

In the interim, we still plan to publish select, non-political stories online - so please stay tuned and follow us if you don’t already.

Best,
San Dimas Community Post

What do you think about the proposal to turn the downtown San Dimas Park & Ride into Gold Line parking?

In June 2021, the city of San Dimas requested that the Gold Line parking lot be moved from Walnut Avenue east of the future station platform to the Park & Ride between Monte Vista and San Dimas Avenues. Recently, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority completed an environmental study reviewing the proposed parking location.

Gold Line is accepting comments on the environmental study until April 4 at 5 p.m. Comments can be emailed to Lisa Levy Buch at [email protected].

What do you think about the parking plan for the new San Dimas Gold Line Station?

As Gold Line construction continues, cities from Azusa to Pomona are making final plans for four new stations, which will be coming soon. With concerns over safety, parking and quality of life, cities along the Pasadena/Azusa stretch have some tips.

Azusa Mayor Robert Gonzalez reflected on the parking issues his city faced when their stations first opened up in 2016. Gonzalez said, “In hindsight, if I knew then what I know now, I would have gone for a larger parking structure.”

Are you ready for the new organic waste disposal program beginning in January 2022?

In the new year, residents and businesses will be required to place food waste into the green waste bin along with yard trimmings. Waste Management will turn this organic material into compost and mulch. With this change comes a rate increase, which the San Dimas City Council unanimously approved on Dec. 14.
