Episode 260 is out now! šŸŽ™ļø

This week on Militantly Mixed, I’m joined by Namalee Bolle, author of The Mixed Multiracial Guide to Wellbeing—a book I’m honored to be featured in as part of the Thrive section.

In this episode, we talk about what it means to navigate the world as Mixed people in spaces that constantly try to define, question, or simplify who we are. We get into identity, wellbeing, micro-aggressions, and the importance of creating space for ourselves in a monoracial world.

Being part of this book and having this conversation with Namalee felt really affirming, especially around the ways we learn to take ownership of our stories and our experiences.

Episode 259 is out now! šŸŽ™ļø

This week on Militantly Mixed, I’m joined by Noelle Blanco, who I met at Mixed Asian Day 2025 in San Francisco... when she literally jumped onto my We Are Not a Monolith panel to fill a spot right after stepping off another panel, and I loved her so much I knew I had to have her on the show.

One of my favorite moments on the panels and the show is when Noelle shares that as a kid, she thought her ethnicity was ā€œPork and Cheese and JalapeƱo,ā€ because that’s was Portuguese and Filipino sounded like.

We talk about Mixed Asian identity, belonging, community, and the importance of spaces like Mixed Asian Day, where we get to show up fully as ourselves.
Also, real talk, this episode was recorded back in November. The past few months have been rough, but I’m finally feeling like myself again and really excited to be back working on the show.

Not for clout. Not for headlines. For family.

His wife is Mexican American.
His kids are half Mexican.
And in that moment, on the biggest stage in sports, our culture was right there with him.

For so many of us, this felt like seeing our families, our culture, and our roots finally reflected where we’re often told we don’t belong. It was a reminder that Mexican heritage and American success are not opposites — they exist together, every single day.

This is what representation looks like.
This is what pride looks like.
This is what Together, We Are America really means.

My computer is out of commission for probably a couple weeks due to needing to replace a part that’s been ordered but delayed due to the holiday and then how ever long Apple Genius Bar takes to fix it, sooooooooo definitely cannot deliver the two episodes I have recorded but not edited this month. So I’m gonna say that’s a wrap on Militantly Mixed for 2025, I’ll be back in 2026 (after my computer gets sorted). Happy holidays and warm wishes for a cozy season to all my cousins around the world, y’all make doing this show worth it!

For the first time in five years, I finally get to hang my very own Militantly Mixed ornament on my own tree! I had these made back in 2020 for the folks that participated in the 12 days of Mixedness videos and I saved one for myself but haven’t had a tree in these years to put it on, but that’s a story for another day. This is the first year that I have my own home and can reclaim the Chrismas holiday that fell off quite often in the 23 years of Chrismases that my husband and I could’ve celebrated so I’m very excited to have my show represented on my own tree for the first time. I’m just glad this ornament didn’t break in the five years since I’ve had it.

Konnichiwassup Cousins!

There’s no episode this week, but the transcript for last week’s episode is now LIVE on the site — and I wanted to show you exactly how to find it.

Episode: A Second First Home — A Transracial Adoptee’s Return to Korea with Traci Hobson

Transcript now available here:
https://www.militantlymixed.com/transracial-adoptee-korea-traci-hobson/

How to find it:

1ļøāƒ£ Scroll past the episode description
2ļøāƒ£ Look for the tabs: Show Notes + Transcript
3ļøāƒ£ Tap Transcript — and it will appear right there on the page

I’ve always wanted Militantly Mixed to be as accessible as possible. Even with AI transcription tools, reviewing and correcting the transcripts takes time and when I moved to the new site host, I didn’t realize the few transcripts I did have wouldn’t transfer automatically. So there are LOTS of MANEhours ahead to update old ones and create new ones.

But: I am committed to keeping up with transcripts for new episodes, and I might finally have a little help on the way soon šŸ‘€ Stay tuned.

This week I talk with Traci Hobson, a biracial Black and Korean transracial adoptee who I met at Mixed Asian Day earlier this year. She was adopted from Korea and raised in the United States, separated from her culture, language, and identity. In our conversation, Traci shares what it was like growing up Mixed and adopted, and how her recent return to Korea became a major step toward reclaiming what was taken from her. She is a thoughtful and open guest, and I am grateful to share her story with you. We explore identity, survival, grief, healing, and the search for home in more than one form.

This week on Militantly Mixed I’m joined by the brilliant Alison Hart, an OG Mixed Cousin who first appeared on Episode 24 back in 2018 with the release of her debut novel, Mostly White. Alison returns to share her stunning new novel, The In-between Sky, and we dive into creativity, identity, and what it means to write from a Mixed-race perspective.
Talking with Alison felt like catching up with family because that’s exactly what it was. We reflected on the years between our first conversation, the evolution of her craft, and the power of storytelling from that ā€œin-betweenā€ place so many of us know well.

🚨New Episode of Militantly Mixed šŸ“¢

Even while on hiatus, I couldn’t miss the chance to speak with the incredible creative team behind Disarm, an animated short film that explores identity, grief, and resilience in the wake of anti-Asian violence.

Following the 2021 Atlanta spa shootings, Disarm tells the story of a young mixed Filipino American woman who witnesses a hate crime on her train ride home. Through breathtaking animation, the film turns trauma into truth and art into activism.

In this episode, I’m sharing the audio from the IG Live discuss I had with Lauren Lola (Writer & Co-Director), Darrick Lazo (Co-Director & Editor), and George Nelson (Animator) about the film’s creation, its cultural significance, and what it means to tell our stories from a Mixed perspective.
