Mama LuLu’s Love Story

One of the first love letters my Dad gave to my Mom. He sent it to her while his company was working a project building the Baguio Convention Center.

Mama had the choice to leave the Philippines with her family to study in the US. She chose to stay with Dad to start a family with him instead.

7 months after this love letter was written and in less than a year of dating, on September 12, 1976, Loreta & Patricio were married. They would have 5 wonderful children, Aimee, Patrick, Mary April, Donnabelle, and me Oliver.

Dad got sick in the 90’s, lost a lot of weight and eventually stopped working. Mama had to migrate to the US with her 3 youngest children in 2000. She went from being a housewife to working overseas taking care of her children and ailing husband.

As time went on, Dad’s health got worse. He lost one of his leg and went on dialysis. They were together until Dad's passing in 2008.

Mama never remarried.

As someone who loves watching food review vlogs, I totally get criticism of any restaurants. You don’t have to like anything. Sometimes it’s not up to your standards or your personal taste buds.

Having said that, there’s a difference between being constructive and just criticizing without any specifics. We have to give a little grace and room for improvement so businesses can do better.

There’s also a difference in criticizing a huge global franchise and a local business. Local and smaller businesses are more dependent on reviews.

As content creators and influencers we have to choose our words carefully, especially when we’re talking about things that involve people’s livelihoods.

A little more respect and nuance is needed for reviews that will affect others. We can all learn from our mistakes and do better.❤️
