REST IN POWER Jordan Neely 🔥

CW: murder, anti-Blackness

Jordan Neely an unhoused Black man on a Manhattan subway train was assaulted by being put into a chokehold and murdered. Media outlets are calling him a “mentally ill and unhinged” man. These labels and violence targeting Black, unhoused, mad and disabled people are unacceptable. We demand justice for Jordan along with the many others who are killed by carceral violence everyday, enough is enough.

CW: murder, anti-Blackness, restraint
We demand further justice for Irvo Otieno who was murdered by police and psychiatric staff at Central State Hospital south of Richmond, Virginia last week. Black Mad and Disabled people are often criminalized and labeled as deviant so often. When we as Black and Brown Mad people are murdered the public doesn’t go into an uproar because they assume we did something to deserve it. These sanist and ableist narratives need to not prevail. Though some of the people who murdered Irvo are getting murder charges not all of them are being held accountable. Policing in psychiatric institutions is not passive it is violent and we need to stop depicting these institutions as places of ‘treatment’ especially if they are going to continue to drug, restrain, and murder people. We are calling for outrage and . Currently, as states continue to propose the expansion of involuntary commitment, we are demanding that policymakers and people of the United States recognize and stop these involuntary commitment policies and all violence in every institution. Fight for the liberation of Mad people. Fight for the liberation of the silenced and erased.

The rise in anti-trans and q***r bills in the United States like “Don’t Say Gay.” Reminds us of the Gay Liberation Front’s long fight against the pathology of homosexuality and electroshock in the 1970s. In this interview with trans and non-binary youth in Grant Pass, Oregon we see youth fighting for their rights and access to voluntary non-carceral community mental health supports.

Last spring, Madness Network News met with a group of high school students to talk about their experiences of being q***r, trans and nonbinary at Grants Pass High School. We talked about transphobi…

Tell Governor Newsom we do not need CARE Court!

The CARE Court proposal ( ) would allow courts to force involuntary medical treatment and deprive people of autonomy over healthcare decisions. This proposal would move us back towards the dark history of institutionalizing Disabled people.

Sign the open letter to the Governor to let him know that we need is adequate allocations of resources for affordable, accessible housing and voluntary community-based services, not coercive mental healthcare treatment.
Learn more and sign the online letter at the link in our bio.

[Image Description: a light pink background with red text that reads: "Anybody can refer someone from a family member to a cop, to a counselor, to a school teacher. Anybody could say, "You know, I think you need to be referred to CARE Court," and then that person has to go through this 12 to 24 month coercive process of taking the medicine and the treatment that is "given" to them - and the housing that is supposedly going to be provided."
