Today my baby boy turns one, and tomorrow you, my big brother—my first bestie—would have been 39. We should be celebrating life together. Instead, Allah’s decree has taken you in your sleep, and your body is sitting cold in a freezer while the woman who claimed to love you begs strangers on the internet for money to bury you.
She claims to be “overwhelmed,” yet refuses to let us, your blood family, take this burden off her shoulders. We have begged and pleaded dozens of times to handle every single detail and expense. I didn’t fly home to New Jersey to fall into the arms of our mother and sisters so we could weep together, instead, I flew across the country to Orlando to beg people who have no heart, no respect, and no shame.
To withhold a deceased person’s body, to deny them a swift and dignified burial, is a cruelty beyond words. We are begging for the mercy and grace Alaa deserves under Allah: to be laid to rest with the honor, peace, and dignity he earned, and to finally be reunited in eternity with our father and eldest brother. We buried prayed over our fathers body and buried him on December 29th, 2025 and our brother on July 9th, 2016. Now my sisters, mother and I have to bury the last man from our household.
For as long as I draw breath, I will never forgive this woman or her family for inflicting this unimaginable torment on us during our darkest hour. My mother lost her last living son merely months after burying her husband of nearly 50 years. Alaa, you deserved so much better than this. I will fight for you until my very last breath.
I ask anyone who sees this: Please pray to Allah to make a way for our family, to bring swift justice, to give Alaa the peace and rest he is being denied, and to protect his 12-year-old baby girl, who is now left without a single living parent. May Allah grant our family patience, and may He return my brother to us so we can finally lay him to rest and finally grieve.
