Inspired by the ways Marcel Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier designed student dorms as emblems of their campuses, outfitted the interiors of Bard College’s North Campus Residence in response to both KPF’s architecture in which it is housed and the college’s overall ethos. Creatives like filmmaker Gia Coppola and comedian Chevy Chase called the residence home while attending the liberal arts institution that fosters art talent. The firm, one of AN Interior’s Top 50 architects and designers last year, drew on this lineage for the dormitory. The result is a far cry from the stale, dusty designs of college memories. .jih wraps the headquarters for condom manufacturer in a series of openings and scrims. The design, which reuses a former dairy creamery in Lynn, Massachusetts, is equal parts tongue-in-cheek (apt for a company who’s origins begin with a condom matchbook), functional, and thoughtful. Creative materials unite the factory floor and office spaces, including dichroic glass, chain mail, and even a light fixture made with the glass molds used to make condoms. Learn more at the .

For many New Yorkers, bathhouses offer a welcome reprieve from busy city living. But as a swell of social bathhouses have taken the city’s wellness landscape by storm, , a new sauna experience from Alex Feldman and Amanda Hensen, has emerged with a model that highlights the city’s most precious commodity: privacy. The duo, who met as colleagues at WeWork, imagined offering harried New Yorkers an escape from the city with sauna sessions in private suites. To make their vision a reality, they commissioned , one of AN Interior’s Top 50 Architects and Designers last year, to design their Chelsea location, which opened this spring. Learn more at the .

NYCxDESIGN continues expanding in activities and livliness, but with growth comes more people, more people begets more money, and more money brings bigger brands, installations, and spectacle. How can New York Design Week resist Milan-ification? A few exhibitions prove what makes New York Design Week New York, and not Milan, with an emphasis on local designers, emerging artists, and independent makers who help shape the fabric of the city. While it may be the last day of the “official” NYCxDESIGN festival, nearly all of May is a sprawl of exhibitions, fairs, pop-ups, and parties sure to please anyone who knows their Cesca from their Chesterfield.

But even the most seasoned design buff needs help separating the wheat from the chaff—which is why, for the first time, AN Interior is bringing you our edit of the best showrooms, installations, restaurants, and landmarks across the city’s designated design districts in our insider guide, Deep Cuts. And because there’s nothing like a local to really tell you what’s what, we turned to a few familiar faces for their tried-and-true picks across each neighborhood. In a low-density forest, along the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Cut Out House rests right up against the uneven treeline. New York–based architecture and design firm, Young Projects (), designed the irregularly shaped family vacation home. The structure, aptly titled, cuts out and around nature, turning a site’s challenges into sculptural expressions.

AN Interior Spring/Summer 2026 is here!

Our 29th issue gets away from it all: We travel to five remote residences, from Greece to Saint Kitts, Upstate New York, Santa Fe, and Valle del Bravo.

The cover story is special. We visit the Schnabel house designed by Frank Gehry, who died in December. Completed in 1989, the compound has been lovingly renovated by its current owner, Thomas Safran, as seen in photographs by Zara Pfeifer ().

Elsewhere, check out kitchen & bath products for your next commission and see a special section of the hottest releases from the spring design fair circuit. We also highlight emerging designers, dip into listening rooms, tour great projects, and share an interview with bathhouse expert Ali McQuaid Mitchell of Futurestudio ().

Don’t miss a glimpse into Taller Bofill’s La Fabrica thanks to doublespace photography (); an essay about the work of Wenche Selmer, a midcentury Norwegian woman architect, with photographs by Max Creasy (); and a back-page Mad-Lib by FOR SCALE’s David Michon ( ).

Designed by Studio Loutsis (), the issue packs a colorful punch.
