Same same but different!

We love hosting our family for Thanksgiving and friends for Friendsgiving! This year we decided to go all out and buy some linen napkins, napkin rings, and gold accented place settings to elevate the table setting. And since we were hosting both meals, we knew we’d get at least 2 uses out of them. Score! 🙌🏼

Hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving this year and have the opportunity to eat amazing food among great company 🦃

Third year making joong. Here are the stats:
16 lbs of sticky rice
2 packs of bamboo leaves
5 lbs of fatty pork belly
2 packs of Chinese sausage
1 dozen store-bought salted egg yolks and a few dozen homemade salted egg yolks
Plenty of peanuts, chestnuts, cured pork belly, dried shrimp
3 days (10 hrs) of wrapping
10 hrs of boiling/cooking

106 joongs (plus about a dozen mini ones for our little one)

Happy dragon boat festival!

The photos don’t do them justice, but these were very LARGE and delicious river prawns and beef ribs from ! They were showstoppers at our party and the talk of the afternoon! Looking forward to the next time we have dinner there. We’re definitely ordering these!

Question: do you eat the shrimp heads?! (We do. They’re so good, and it would be wasteful not to!)

Is this a beautifully seasoned flat bottom wok or what??? We (by we I mean Jason) blued and seasoned this flat bottom wok from San Francisco’s The Wok Shop for my sister and soon-to-be brother-in-law! Can this as a wedding gift? 😂 Haha let us know in the comments!

We probably cooked chicken katsu at least 4 times last month and ate it for at least 7 meals! Leftover chicken katsu were turned into katsu sandwiches for lunch with kewpie mayo and Dijon mustard. We love it… but don’t love the cleanup 😅

We love hosting, but we also love showing up to eat (and not having to cook or clean😋)! We’re not the type to show up empty-handed, though. We brought egg nog and spiced cider for some delicious garlic pork chops, roasted potatoes, green beans, and sautéed mushrooms cooked by my sister and future brother-in-law!

This holiday season may look a little different for some of us, but I hope you’re surrounded by great food and great people! Happy holidays!

Mochi custard moon cakes courtesy of our good friend Steph! These were the cutest little treats. She told us the number of moon cakes dwindled down with each step and ended up with 5 perfect ones. Can anyone relate?! We split these 15 ways so each one of us had a a tasty little bite. ☺️ Thanks, Steph, for your hard work! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Are you a nigiri or sashimi person? Sometimes I think I should go for the sashimi because I can make my own rice and don’t need to pay for the rice. But that’s not really how it works. The pieces of fish are cut and prepared differently, so we have to get both! There’s no way around it 😅

This year we celebrated my brother’s birthday 3x! For part 1, we ordered sake and hamachi belly nigiri and sashimi along with a few specialty rolls (King of Hamachi, Bay Bridge, Lion King, Dragon) from . This isn’t the first time we ordered takeout from them nor posted about them. They’re definitely our new fave sushi restaurant 🤤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Keeping the flame alive with hotpot date night for our 4th wedding anniversary! This is not only our first night out just the two of us since our baby was born, but it’s also our first night out since the shelter-in-place order over a year ago! It felt a little new and yet so familiar.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a little nerve wracking to do something new for the first time, like leaving our baby for the evening. But now that we’ve done it, we think we can MAYBE do this regularly... maybe once a month? 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ 🤷🏻‍♂️

Vacation brunch ft. fresh strawberries and canteloupe, soft scrambled eggs with dried parsley and truffle salt, pumpkin banana muffins, and keto waffles from Costco. Everything was delicious... except for the keto waffles 😆 Syrup and fresh strawberries couldn’t save it. Do you cook on vacation or eat out / takeout only?

We’re slowly but surely churning out YouTube content again. 🙂 This video took Jason over a month to edit for a few reasons. 1) Still getting used to being parents even though it’s been a few months since his mini-me was born. 2) Jason used Adobe Premiere Pro for the first time, and learning new software takes time. 3) We’ve been working hard on something new for the past couple weeks! Any guesses?? We can’t wait to share more with you very, very soon! (If you’re one of the few people who know, don’t spoil it for everyone else 😆)

Celebrated Valentine’s Day a few days late with this sushi spread from . It was all fresh and delicious, but the salmon belly nigiri were both our favorites! Jason particularly liked their Alaska Roll, and I appreciated their generous sashimi portions. We can’t wait to dine-in at Oki Sushi for the first time when that option is available again.
