Russia launched a strike near Ukraine’s border with Poland on Sunday, hitting a truck close to the Dorohusk-Yahodyn crossing and temporarily disrupting operations at the crossing, Ukrainian officials said.
The strike came amid a wider escalation in Russian attacks targeting Ukrainian infrastructure. Ukrainian officials have also reported repeated strikes on petrol stations and other economic and logistical facilities. On Friday, Russian drone strikes on two petrol stations in Kyiv killed two people and injured 12, including a child.
The latest attack near the Polish border has raised fresh concerns about the expanding risks to Ukraine’s western transport links and routes connecting the country with its European allies. Poland has warned that Russian forces could increasingly target border crossings with Ukraine.
Russia says its strikes are aimed at military and strategic infrastructure, while Kyiv accuses Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian and economic infrastructure. The conflict continues to intensify despite renewed efforts to revive U.S.-brokered peace talks.

The widow of a man killed in the September 11 attacks went off script during an official commemoration ceremony in New York on Friday, demanding accountability over Saudi Arabia's role in the terrorist plot.

Terry Strada was speaking about her husband Tom when she asked: "How can it be 25 years and still we have no justice for the role that Saudi Arabia played in your murder?"

Vice President JD Vance was in attendance at the ceremony, as were all four living ex-presidents. Strada, who chairs the group 9/11 Families United, said successive administrations had failed the victims. "It has been one betrayal after another," she said.

While the Saudi government has always denied advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks, 15 of the 19 plane hijackers were Saudi citizens, including some with connections to Saudi officials and intelligence assets in the United States.

9/11 Families United has an ongoing lawsuit against Saudi Arabia over its alleged role in the attacks, which has been winding its way through U.S. courts for years.

A weapons-development cell in northern Yemen, believed to be linked to the Iran-backed Houthis, used Anthropic’s Claude AI to help develop guidance, navigation and control software for advanced weapons, including a multi-stage ballistic missile and guided rockets, according to Anthropic’s latest threat report.
Anthropic said many requests were blocked by its safeguards, but the group attempted to bypass restrictions by concealing its intentions and splitting its work across multiple sessions. The group also reportedly test-fired a guided rocket, which failed, before returning to Claude to troubleshoot the failure.
Anthropic said it banned the associated accounts and shared information with security partners, while noting that it found no evidence the group successfully fielded an operational weapon.

Algeria says it has decided to cut diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates after what it described as a series of “provocative or hostile” actions by Abu Dhabi despite “repeated warnings”, Al Jazeera reports.

Algeria’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that the UAE’s actions had reached a point where they could no longer be considered acceptable and that it had “exhausted all means of preserving bilateral relations”.

It said the Emirati ambassador had been summoned to the ministry, informed of the decision and given 48 hours to comply.

There was no immediate comment from the UAE.

The Republican Party kicked off its first-ever midterm political convention on Wednesday in Dallas. At least 33 House Republicans and several others locked in tight Senate races opted to skip the two-day event, which comes with President Trump's approval ratings at historically low levels.

Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman made a surprise appearance at the convention. In a pre-recorded video, he introduced Pennsylvania's Republican Senator Dave McCormick as his "great friend” and pledged to work with Trump.

“I'm a commonsense Democrat,” said Fetterman. “I'm always going to stand with America. I'm always going to reject the extremes in socialism and that anti-American way of life.”

Netanyahu Claims Iran's Government on Verge of Collapse as Middle East War Intensifies:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Iran's government is on the brink of collapse, as the six-month Middle East war continues to escalate, AFP reports.

"There is still work to be done — the main task is to bring down the terror regime in Iran. We are very close to that. We know that the entire axis will ultimately collapse," Netanyahu said during a visit to the Israel-Syria border alongside Defence Minister Israel Katz.

Oil prices surge above $100 a barrel as fresh Middle East attacks fuel supply fears. Brent crude climbed above $100 a barrel on Wednesday, reaching its highest level since July, as escalating attacks across the Middle East raised fears of further disruptions to global oil supplies, Reuters reports.

The latest surge follows attacks on energy facilities in Saudi Arabia and continued fighting involving the U.S. and Iran, while disruption around the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea has sharply reduced oil shipments.
