Can I turn a vintage glitter lamp into a real lava lamp?
This 1990s Lava Lite Wizard lamp originally contained swirling glitter, but after a viewer sent it to me, I decided to attempt something it was never designed to do: convert it into a fully functioning lava lamp.
What seemed like a relatively simple conversion quickly turned into a three-month experiment involving stubborn caps, replacement stoppers, different bulbs, cloudy fluid, surfactant adjustments, wax-flow problems and a truly unnecessary number of failures.
In this video, I share the entire glitter-lamp-to-lava-lamp conversion process, including what worked, what failed and what I learned about restoring vintage lava lamps along the way. We’ll cover the differences between glitter lamps and lava lamps, cleaning the globe, choosing the correct bulb, sealing the bottle, adjusting surfactant, tuning the flow and safely testing the finished lamp.
