6 Degrees of Prince traces the purple thread running through four decades of music — the songs Prince wrote under secret names, the artists he built from scratch, and the sound of Minneapolis that’s still echoing through everything you listen to today. Some connections you know. Most, you don’t. That’s the fun.

Come chat, come listen, come get schooled by two people who live this music.

Nero Nava — aka DJ Godfather Dracula (yes, Prince named him that)
Nero isn’t a Prince fan. He’s a Prince expert — a man who knew Prince personally and has spent years interviewing the artists, collaborators, and inner-circle members of Prince’s camp for his podcast, I Want You to Know.

🌙 This Wednesday I’m on the decks for Jane Kim at the fabulous Moongate Lounge moongatelounge

I’ve been making music and art in this city for over 20 years, and for just about that whole stretch Jane Kim has been one of the most consistent progressive fighters San Francisco has. School board, then District 6 supervisor from 2011 to 2019 — the Tenderloin, SoMa, Chinatown-adjacent corridors, the neighborhoods that get talked about and rarely fought for. Free City College. Tenant protections. Affordable housing when it wasn’t the popular position. She didn’t discover any of that recently.

Now she’s running for California Insurance Commissioner — and she made it through the June primary to the November general. That office regulates the largest insurance market in the country, and after the fires, the cancellations, the premium hikes, it matters more than it ever has. She’s refusing money from insurance companies, which means this campaign runs on us.

So come celebrate her birthday and put some love behind it:

Some days are really, really special... We had the thrill of a lifetime hosting ’ Leadership Huddle Luncheon at Old Skool Cafe. These remarkable  players came together to honor each other’s service to their communities, share their stories, and spur one another on. This is what leadership looks like. Our youth were proud to serve you and inspired by each of your stories. Thank you for taking the time to speak with all the Old Skool youth, hang out in the kitchen, sign autographs, and encourage them! ❤️
