There is a new Tam Lin album up on the Paisley Shirt Records Bandcamp page, titled “Seven Fairies”.
A few weeks ago, Mike Ramos heard from Ray Seraphin that Ray’s drummer, Brett, was selling a Telex tape duplicator. Mike convinced me to buy it, he went and picked it up, and I promised that I’d record something to duplicate on it.
I spent the week making various keyboard and guitar-based recordings on a portable cassette recorder, then mixed it all down through an Aphex Aural Exciter and Alesis Nanoverb.
A few weeks ago, I came across a garage sale with a number of 60s/70s Mandarin pop LPs (with some of my favorite Singaporean A-Go-Go backing bands). In the ~40 or so records there were a number of movie soundtracks, one being for “A Maid from Heaven” / directly translated title is “Seven Fairies”. I thought the cover and title was fitting for a release.
Seven Fairies includes key riffs inspired by kalason “singing bus horns,” guitar loops with vibrato on, stream-of-consciousness lyrics and portable cassette recorder quality.
