Hello Lovlies,

Outfit #2 from the World Market Style Campaign 🌻
A girl just can’t resist a good buy when she sees one.

I’ve literally been living in this dress—no joke. With the weather being so gorgeous and hot, this is the easiest piece to toss on with sandals or sneakers. Belted or not belted, this has been my go-to for weeks. I’m obsessed with the colors and the perfect weight of this cotton/linen blend. And yes, it has pockets—one of my favorite details!

The crochet cardi adds the perfect boho touch for special days or evenings out.
Unfortunately, both pieces are no longer available (darn!). I guess I’m not the only one who couldn’t resist a good buy for the perfect go-to outfit.

The styling details: Pretty gem necklace also from WM. Cord belt from Xirena featuring a gorgeous gradient from orange to yellow. I popped this color story with my yellow “Gelato” sneakers (a find thanks to my fab client’s introduction—thanks Kristin!) and my yellow watch. Can you tell yellow is a favorite color for summer? If you run into me this time of year, don’t be surprised if my nails are painted yellow too! 💛

It all started when I was a teenager.

World Market (aka “Cost Plus” World Market for those who grew up in California) was a marketplace filled with fascinating finds from around the world. It was one of my favorite places for furniture, pottery, textiles, international foods, and so much more.

You can imagine my excitement at 16 when I was hired as a stock girl—one of my first real jobs in the working world.

I still have the box cutter I used to slice open packages. Besides making the store floor beautiful with exciting, colorful products, the thrill of splitting open boxes and peering in to see new arrivals was a highlight of my day. To this day, I use that box cutter to open deliveries at home, and I still get that same excited feeling I used to get at Cost Plus. Oh, if my box cutter could talk!

Over the years, World Market has remained a favorite place for unique finds for myself, my house, my family, and friends. It wasn’t until 6-7 years ago that I discovered their clothing and accessory section. Whenever I wore my World Market pieces, I’d get compliments.

Last fall, I found stylish clothing pieces that had people stopping me in the streets—including right outside World Market—asking where I bought my coat, sweater, etc. When I said World Market, they were shocked. Most had no idea World Market even sold clothing! I found myself proudly sharing these coveted fashion finds that didn’t break the bank.

As a stylist, I’ve always said stylish clothing can be found at every price point. I was walking proof. This rayon dress? $40.

Dress & Jewelry: Mira Multicolor Toucan and Botanical Kaftan Dress styled with a delicate gem necklace and turquoise earrings, adding some of my own jewelry + a vintage leather belt from Italy and platform sandals, creating a fun summer outfit perfect for an afternoon garden party or al fresco dinner.

Hello lovelies,

If you are an American citizen, it’s time to vote. It is your right and privilege to cast your ballot. The one thing in America that moves the needle is you putting the pen to paper. Your vote counts, and this election couldn’t be more important.

In 2020 almost 80 million Americans decided to stay home. Some said they’re not into politics, some said their vote doesn’t matter, some said they don’t care, etc., etc. There is no excuse not to have your voice and opinion heard.

Politics has a place in everyone’s life, because every decision made about our country is political, and every vote matters. I think it’s BS when I hear people say they don’t care. Of course people care. That’s why they’re so frustrated. The sad thing is, if they don’t vote, they’ll soon have plenty of reasons to care even more. And most definitely, they will complain of the outcome.

But then I always say, you don’t have a right to complain because you didn’t vote. So stop bitching about how messed up our government is and be a part of changing it. It is a privilege that many don’t exercise and should. The stakes are too high. Everyone needs to do their part.

On a lighter note, what are you wearing to the polls? 😁

✌🏼& ❤️🤍💙

Hello lovelies,

It doesn’t take much. Sometimes it only takes one piece; one item to uplift your wardrobe. To inspire you. One item to focus on to create a few new outfits, that adds a little juice and spice to your closet.

For me, it was this skirt. I immediately saw how many different ways I could wear this skirt this fall and beyond. Here’s one of them.

Thanks to my dear friend “Larry, the hat” who gifted me this fun cashmere sweater to add to my repertoire of outfits created with this skirt! 🙏🏼

Have you purchased any new items that have uplifted your wardrobe? Let me know- I’d love to hear.

Hello lovelies,

Whenever a client has a challenging time creating outfits it’s usually because of two different reasons.

1. You’re a girl who loves color, pattern and texture so much because yes, these are the most exciting pieces! Basics can be a bit boring for this girl so they are not at the top of her shopping list.

The challenge: Unless you’re a mix master, mixing color, patterns, and texture into outfits might be intimidating.

2. You’re a girl who isn’t drawn to much color, so your closet is filled with neutral items.

The challenge: When you rarely buy colors or patterns and are wearing your best neutrals for your personal coloring(black, white, camel, navy, olive etc), you might get bored because your outfits will start to look the same even though your pieces are essentially different.

When you have the right basics in your wardrobe, balanced with some color, pattern and texture, mixing and matching them into a variety of outfits, not only can be a piece of cake, but you’ll end up with a variety of outfits that you’ll love. And what’s not to love about that?!

If you were to look at your wardrobe, is it a sea of neutrals, an exciting blend of color and patterns, or a beautiful balance of both?

I dive deeper into these topics so sign up for my newsletter and get these tips and more firsthand. Link in bio.

Hello lovelies,

Do you see a theme here? This client is a girlie girl, always wearing dresses. Her closet is filled with beautiful dresses for day and evening. As well as skirts. When we went through her closet and I conducted a closet audit, it was very evident which items she was missing in her wardrobe. Feminine Blouses and fun tops to go with all of her bottoms(mostly skirts).

She was also missing a comfortable pair of jeans. The current jean styles were not as flattering on her as she would have liked. She wanted something flattering but also something super comfy. I knew that these Rag&Bone French Terry jeans, that have been around for a couple of seasons, would be the perfect fit for her. Why? Because they are literally French Terry done in a Trompe l’oeil, so that they look like actual jeans. Yes, the look of the jeans is actually screen printed onto the terry. Pretty cool huh? I’ve sold a quite a few to my clients. They feel as good as sweat pants**- because, girl, they are! 😂

And let’s talk about the gorgeous wrap coat by Akris Punto. What better way to top off all of your beautiful feminine outfits than with a camel coat! And this one is absolutely stunning. We bought it a little on the oversized side because it just felt a bit more chic when she put it on. It was perfect.

Need help elevating your style? Call me.

✌🏼&🧡
~Michelle

PS: Per my suggestion, she bought two of the exact same pair. Smart girl!

Hello lovelies,

I’m shopping a lot. Because I received such a wonderful response from my last post, sharing what my client purchased, I’m going to try and make it a regular thing here when I post. (BTW, I’m also sending out my newsletter, and sometimes I add more to my style tips than what I include here. So if you want more, sign up at michellemoquin.com)

My dress is a 1) love that I’ve had for many years. Gifted to me by a dear friend. I go through phases with this dress. I’ve never stopped loving it but it has been awhile since I wore it.

Style tip: If you still love an item but haven’t worn it in awhile, and if it’s still in wonderful shape, don’t get rid of it. Just pack it away for a bit. Then revisit it when the season calls for it. Sometimes just pairing it with something new gives new life to something you already love. Case in point: I’ve always worn this dress with my gladiator platform sandals and a denim fitted jacket. This time pairing it with these 1) Red booties (Jigsaw) and a brown leather jacket felt fresh and new to me.

If you scroll to the second image, you can see that this client is very different from the last client I shopped for. A different body type and different personal coloring (hair, skin tone, eye color)

All of this matters when it comes to looking your best. If you’re going to get dressed, why not wear items that flatter you, and you love. Both are possible!

Hello lovelies,

Are you more warm coloring, cool or a combination of both?

My client that I recently shopped for has warmth in her personal coloring(PC). That means that her eyes, hair and skin tone is more warm than cool. Hence, most of the colors I picked out for her (especially her core neutrals) are warm colored (red and yellow-based) It doesn’t mean she can’t wear cool colors (blue-based) It just means that she looks better in warm colors.

Style Tip: When you know the colors that look amazing on you, shopping becomes so much easier, and then mixing up outfits becomes effortless because everything goes with everything. If you’re going to be buying color, why not buy the colors that make you shine?

When it comes to wearing your neutrals, it definitely makes mixing and matching your neutrals into an outfit waayy more easier. It’s a bit complicated to explain. However, the right neutral is the difference between your skin looking alive and glowing and your skin looking dull and washed out. Although I look at all 3 areas of your personal coloring(PC), the skin tone is the most important.

If you’re looking to discover your best colors, I have several color offerings that will meet your needs and budget. Visit my website in my bio.

Hello lovelies,

Hanging out with my new love. 🤣

This is a very different outfit for me and I really love it. The 1)suede top from my aunt from decades ago, and the 2) leather skirt I recently purchased up in Sebastopol at a delightful store called
What a find! Kerry Mitchell aka “Lone Eagle” has been creating authentic Native American clothing and accessories since the 70’s. He’s designed for the silver screen along with costuming many celebrities such as Cher, Clint Eastwood, Ann Margaret, Smokey Robinson… really too many to name.

I felt so fortunate to find this skirt that fits perfectly. Paired with my 1) slides I acquired in the Tuscany region in Italy many many years ago.

Is there something in your closet that feels very different from your regular attire that you love?
