Like so many of you, my heart aches for the black community, our city, state and nation, following the senseless murder of George Floyd last week. The hurt is deep, and it is real.
As a white man, I have never experienced firsthand the systemic racism that our black neighbors experience daily, and I never will. Neither will my son. And for that reason, the right words escape me. But I know that I cannot remain silent. Racism is wrong. It’s wrong.
We were all bought with the blood of Jesus [1 Peter 1:18-19]; we all have the same inherent value. That means your life matters; black lives matter. And the very fact that it still (or ever) needs to be said is the problem.
As the body of Christ, the world is calling our number. We cannot sit idly on the sidelines in silence, or we become the very problem we are trying to fight.
Friends, we stand with you.
We are praying and believing that swift justice will be served.
Please pray for our city, state and nation.
We need Jesus.
Only Jesus.
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” - Mark 12:29-31
