We focus on LGBTQ+, Black, Native, POC, and disabled artists who create work that is sonically and politically pushing boundaries toward liberation. We work together to create an alternative to an industry that has historically exploited and devalued artist labor and requires artists to exhaust themselves to fulfill their life’s passion. We see the work of decolonial artists as world-building acti

vism that centers empathy and basic human needs. The crux of our work is centered in engaging the healing power of sound for communities in struggle. Our goal is to pay and provide material resources for artists whose work lies on the margins of mainstream consumption. Our work is multifaceted in that we take multiple avenues to address issues around accountability, accessibility, racism, transphobia, and other systems of oppression. Ratskin is curation centered in its practice and provides resources for artists to create self-determined spaces.

It’s been nearly two years since this beast of a record was released and in that time its importance and uniqueness has only impressed itself upon us in that time. this record holds space for a wide scope of human emotion and as I age every year, the emotional and evocative power of music and art cements itself further upon our ears both upon the first listen and somewhere around the hundredth listen, the joy this record brings does not diminish it only strengthens. Thank you to everyone who came out to Outsider Sounds and Visions Festival at First Church Of The Buzzard! It was a weekend to remember - it all happened so fast. If you have any pictures or video please send to us so we can add into our mega folder of documentation which we will slowly be sharing here.

We were able to donate $250 to the a very important organization doing very important work! Thank you to all who came out and supported all of the incredible artists.

We have our Spring sale running now through the end of April to celebrate our ongoing decades long shenanigans! New release announcements coming soon! Wow are we excited to drop the next two surprise releases! Big things en route!

Artist Spotlight: Tropisphere


Vocalist and synth player Eli Reyes carves out a story, etched in blood and flowers with a voice as sweet as it is evil and pulverizing. Jake Rodriguez lays down a bed of synth tones that can warp your mind from the inside out and moody rhythms that will get your head banging; leaving the last nail in the coffin for Bobby Cosmos to drive home with his super-phased bass lines, mechanical drums and cerebral synth melodies. Together, they bring an arsenal of industrial rhythms, street-wise noise and melodic texture to the fold — somewhere in the vein of synth pioneers such as Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream...at other times, echoing those many waves of aforementioned Frisko Freaks.

Artist Spotlight: SHOLEH ASGARY

We’re honored to welcome Sholeh Asgary into the Ratskin Records Outsider Sounds and Visions Festival.
Sholeh’s work moves with intention—blurring memory, sound, and place into something deeply felt and quietly and LOUDLY powerful. Sholeh’s work contains a care and presence that invites us to slow down, to listen more closely, and to sit with the spaces between this chaotic and breaking world. SHOLEH’s work is second to none and we could not be humbled more to have her as part of OSAV Fest. Absolutely not to be missed. Word is she may have a few copies of her last album on cassette for sale - very limited!! Highly recommended!

Sholeh Asgary (b. Iran) engages performance, interdisciplinary forms, and collective processes to investigate, memorialize, and express the complexities of joy and survival inherent in diasporic and refugee experiences. Her work challenges colonial assumptions about what is heard, proposing new futures through sound.

Really full circle moment having performing at Outsider Sounds and Visions Fest. Meeting in early 2003 as an SFAI student really blew my mind open to so much amazing art and weird music I hadn’t discovered including his band Total Shutdown. Seeing them completely annihilate Kimos? Maybe 2002-2003? Was one of my first three or four Bay Area shows. Being thrown into the pit I knew I had begun even if by a thread to find my community. This was right before Ratskin Records was formed and undoubtedly Bob’s invitation to go see his band (which he downplayed) only blew my mind more when I experienced that first Total Shutdown live show. wTF. True break your brain energy. Soon after that befriended somewhere along the lines and here we are maybe decades later.

Honored and humbled to include Bay Area avant metal / punk / Wtf experience makers Total Shutdown! Performing Saturday night around 10pm! My Total Shutdown live Lp is one of my most coveted - If they have any for sale - swipe it up!

“Self taught multi disciplinary artist- electronic music producer/watercolor/pen/cross-processed photo manipulation/digital art Musical expression is an incredibly cathartic experience. Expectant is my debut release- presented as an auditory voyage through my anxiety, confusion and depression. Recording music has completely changed my approach to artistry and creativity. Currently, in my art journey, I am pushing against the idea that my art must reflect the political aspects of my existence. I am weary of Black women having to be the pawns of men- uplifting an entire community with no compensation. Being drained by weak, “well-meaning” whites who are fueled and energized by the exploitation of Black suffering with no real efforts for change.Shaping my existential rage and anxiety into a journey of self actualization through color and sound has been a profound experience.”
