Isn't it true that when someone says something is wrong, our first thought is, "What have I done wrong now?" That constant fear of having a finger of accusation pointed in our direction - that guilt complex that can plague us into admitting guilt when it isn't ours. Shakespeare wrote, "The mind of guilt is full of scorpions." And surely it is. For we often take more on with a feeling of guilt than is required of us. It is more often a feeling of fear, fear of being ridiculed, blamed, or even threatened. A guilt complex can be erased. Not in a day, and maybe not completely, unless we are dedicated to keeping it out of our minds. We are so prone to throw fuel on the fire that we must always be completely aware of the thoughts we entertain. But certainly, with turning to our innate faith and wisdom we can find enough courage to recognize the ghosts of guilt and see them for what they are. Perhaps in the final analysis we find we were not guilty at all. We feel relieved, but if we were guilty, the relief of admitting mistakes is just as great.

Evening brings Sam-cat to the kitchen door loudly demanding attention. Not that he wants to be fed, because most of the time he prefers the food he finds for himself. He comes to be spoken to, to be petted, and to be made welcome. He's no different from you and me. To be welcome is a basic need. If someone wants us simply for our presence we have something golden. Even when we are hungry we can stop to be greeted because it is a sign we are worthy of attention. Even the aloof and arrogant melt when they know they are loved and wanted. SELF SACRIFICE, 1905. When Edward S. Curtis stayed at the Crow Reservation in Eastern Montana to document cultural and spiritual practices, he did so with permission of Tribal elders. Prohibitions against photographing the Sun Dance and rites such as those performed by the lone man below, perhaps not part of a Sun Dance, came later. The historic image has been repeatedly published for 110 years.

As Christians prepare to celebrate a figure who sacrificed himself, it is worth noting that Plains Tribes held multi-day celebrations of New Life. Self-piercing, with pins routed through the flesh of the chest and attached to leather thongs, could have been done to seek strength, visions, renewal, or blessings for the common good. Born June 22, 1952, on the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ontario, Mr. Greene is a 73 year old FIRST NATIONS Canadian actor who belongs to the ONEIDA tribe. He has worked on stage, in film, and in TV productions in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S.

He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his 1990 performance in "Dances with Wolves". Other films you may have seen him in include Thunderheart, Maverick, Die Hard with a Vengeance, the Green Mile, and Wind River. Graham Greene graduated from the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in 1974 & immediately began performing in professional theatre in Toronto and England, while also working as an audio technician for area rock bands. His TV debut was in 1979 and his screen debut in 1983. His acting career has now spanned over 4 decades & he remains as busy as ever. In addition to the Academy Award nomination for Dance with Wolves, he has been consistently recognized for his work, and also received nominations in 1994, 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2016.
