Xica-Soul provides listeners with a collection of the often overlooked sub-genres of soul music, as well as a presentation of uncommon labels and rare gems. The program gradually transitions into from sweet soul to the equally sophisticated sounds of modern soul, Modern funk, and boogie. In addition to showcasing the aforementioned branches of soul music, this program will also include guest DJ se
ts and interviews from some of the actual artists we preserve on the show as well as new up-and-coming musicians who possess the same appreciation and affinity for soul music. A typical show will start off with 60s-70s sweet-soul, then work its way into late 70s modern soul, setting the stage for early 80s boogie/funk, and sometimes even leading into todayβs growing modern funk genre. This format will cover the soul spectrum by displaying the evolution of different soul genres, and how they can weave in and out of each other throughout the decades. The cultural context here lies within my ability to dig deep into the archives and select quality music that is diverse and unique, while giving the listeners an opportunity to learn something about the realms of soul music some never knew existed. It will draw parallels between the old (sometimes forgotten) sounds, to the new sounds of today, educating the listener along the way about the evolution of soul music.
