Xenophobic Attacks: NASS Hits Back At South Africa, Suspends All Official Visits, Legislative Events

The Nigerian National Assembly has hit back at South Africa over recurring xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African nationals, suspending all official visits to the country and ordering a boycott of legislative activities hosted or organised by South African authorities.

THEWILL reports that the decision, which takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice, covers senators, members of the House of Representatives, National Assembly committees, officials and staff.

It followed growing concerns by the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives over reports that Nigerians living and doing legitimate business in South Africa have been killed, injured, displaced or forced to abandon their businesses, investments, homes and other properties as a result of xenophobic violence

Joshua-Fury Fight Could Land In Cardiff As Principality Stadium Emerges As Compromise Venue

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium has reportedly emerged as a serious option for the long-awaited heavyweight showdown, potentially resolving the biggest disagreement around the fight: UK or US?

Joshua has reportedly wanted the fight in the UK, while the commercial appeal of staging it in the US has remained a major consideration. Cardiff could offer both sides a middle ground: a British venue with a US-friendly broadcast time.

The catch? The fight could start at around 2am UK time to fit Netflix’s American viewing window. Principality Stadium normally has a 10:30pm curfew, so organisers would need special approval to extend the event into the early hours.

And there’s history. Joshua has already fought at the stadium twice, beating Carlos Takam in 2017 and Joseph Parker in 2018.

The venue can hold around 80,000 fans, has a retractable roof and has previously hosted a major boxing fight in the early hours when Joe Calzaghe faced Mikkel Kessler in 2007 to accommodate international broadcasting.

So, Cardiff could potentially give Joshua the home setting he wants, Netflix the US audience it wants, and fans one of the biggest British boxing nights in years.

Aisha Yesufu has raised concerns about INEC’s handling of the 2023 presidential election ahead of the 2027 polls.

Yesufu, who is supporting Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 election, said Nigerians should not rely on assurances from electoral institutions or allow them get away with “rascality”.

She said she doesn’t trust INEC, judiciary or and security agency.
She emphasized “We’re going to watch INEC like a hawk.”
