So much beauty… My heart gets so happy seeing these photos. This year we set up a small altar in our living space to honor our passed ancestors. A dream of mine has been to go to Oaxaca and I finally get to go next year for Día De Mu***os!

Día de mu***os en la ciudad de los mu***os (Mitla, Oaxaca).

Mitla es un pueblo mágico, mayormente conocido por su zona arqueológica, una de las más importantes de Oaxaca.

Su nombre proviene del náhuatl Mictlán, que significa "Lugar de mu***os”.

Since the concept of both gender and sexuality can be confusing, especially when some of us have multiple labels, here’s a very basic set of definitions to help.

And remember there is NO RIGHT or WRONG way to be Gender Diverse and/or Transgender and any label that affirms you is okay.

You can have multiple gender labels such as identifying as Trans and Non-Binary and also having a sexual orientation such as Pansexual or Bisexual.

No one gets to choose those labels for you, it is your choice to decide what language feels most congruent.

And finally, Cis-Gender Q***r people can be transphobic, Transgender people can be non-binaryphobic, your q***rness (and mine) is not a free pass to discriminate.

My mom sent me this pic today. I was in elementary school, 4th or 5th grade I think. I always felt stuck when I had to choose whether to showcase my Mexican or Guatemalan side. They are so different and both a part of me. I often chose Guatemalan because I was the only one and felt like it needed to be represented. Here I am with some of the other Central American kids in my class. I loved wearing the beautiful colors and connecting to my indigenous side.

I always talk about this, but I hadn’t seen this picture in years. Felt like sharing it with y’all ❤️

Any other folx on here who felt conflicted growing up with two cultures?

Life can be short or it can be long. We just never know. Commit to living your life rather than watching it go by. Healing is life long and it doesn’t mean you don’t get to have fun along the way. Make new memories, tell people you love them, have those difficult conversations, and laugh a lot!

Being human is not easy, especially with all the s**t being dumped on us daily (racism, injustice, etc). Yet, life is still a gift and it doesn’t have to be just one thing. You can be the bad ass social justice warrior and also a great kareoke singer. Give yourself a chance to shine through and wear it all proudly.

Happiness is something we all aspire to reach. We all like the feelings of joy, excitement, and happy. Sadness is another story. Many of us dread it and do almost anything to avoid it.

It makes sense right? Sadness can be intense and brings discomfort. Yet, sadness is crucial and an important part of our emotional development. Sadness like happiness provides context to our experiences and both can be used as tools.

We will never reach a state of “just happy” or “happiness” because we can’t stay there. We will have moments of it, and we will have moments of sadness as well. They are not opposite or good/bad, they just are. Feelings. Letting us know we’re alive.

Inter-generational trauma is a buzzword everyone uses now. It’s great to see folx learn and crave more when it comes to healing.

However, I do think it’s helpful to remember that healing inter-generational trauma is a long journey that in reality never ends. It continues even after we’re gone. The purpose is not to “stop” or reach a “healed” state. Instead our hope is to learn, grow, do things differently, and live a life rooted in love. This is not easy, and that’s ok. We are human. We are constantly learning and growing. You are not responsible for “fixing” or repairing years and years of the past, your only job is to plant seeds for the future and to teach the next generation how to care for and continue nurturing the seeds as they grow.

Happy International Pronouns Day everyone!

We'd like to acknowledge and celebrate everyone who is on a journey around pronouns. Those who have changed their pronouns, those who are trying on different pronouns to see how they feel, those actively working to uncouple pronouns from gender, and those working to incorporate new pronouns into their language.

None of this is easy work, but it's crucial that we do it.

Using someone's correct pronouns is important, it can be the difference between someone feeling respected by you and happy to be around you, vs uncomfortable and dysphoric. It may take time to adjust to and that's okay, but remember to notice when you are centering yourself over the person who has been so vulnerable to let you in and show you themselves.
