Many people think the lungs “reset” quickly after quitting — but the truth is, smoking can cause years to decades of damage.

Here are 3 key things you can do to prevent a stroke:
1. 🩺 Control your blood pressure
• High blood pressure is the #1 cause of stroke.
• Keep it below 120/80 mmHg if possible.
• Limit salt, eat more fruits and vegetables, and take prescribed medications regularly.
2. 🚶‍♀️ Adopt a healthy lifestyle
• Exercise at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week.
• Maintain a healthy weight.
• Quit smoking and limit alcohol intake.
3. ❤️ Manage underlying health conditions
• Control diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
• Take prescribed meds for atrial fibrillation or other heart rhythm problems.
• Schedule regular checkups to monitor your risk factors.
