San Francisco has always been home to a vibrant and unique urban culture. Yet, like many cities, it has gradually succumb to a transport system largely centered around the automobile, resulting in strained mobility, weakened social interaction, and a diminished public realm. But many efforts are afoot to build a city more comfortable for walking and bicycling, with better public transit, and with

more multi-use public spaces. Following in the footsteps of Danish urbanist Jan Gehl, SanFranciscoize is focused on adapting the concept of Copenhagenization to San Francisco. SanFranciscoize documents and promotes discussion of efforts to foster more lively public spaces and integrated communities by developing transport systems compatible with urban life.

Well hello there Guerrero Park! It's been three and a half years and this Pavement to Parks plaza is still looking spiffy. The plants have finally matured and do a good job of shielding visitors from the nearby traffic.

Fun fact: the materials used for this project were all leftovers from elsewhere in the City. Check out those huge eucalyptus trunks!

At first I was thinking "two bike corrals on the same block of 18th St!!" Turns out even that's not enough bike parking for this neighborhood. Both corrals are full and people are still locking to poles & trees.
