Last night was pure joy.

Ronnie and Dr. E.C. Dukes had the honor of representing DUKEScomics at the book launch for Xicanxfuturism Codex I at Medicine for Nightmares in San Francisco.

We premiered a motion comic based on our short piece “uberXfrontera.” Sharing that work in community, surrounded by brilliant artists and writers, meant everything.

So much gratitude to our fellow contributors: Natalia Rivas, Patrick Fontes, Joel Flores, Salvador Ayala, Luis Valderas, and MM Olivas. Your work inspires us deeply.

Huge thanks to Scott Russell Duncan Fernandez, who coordinated the evening and co-edited the anthology with Jenny Irizarry, and to Riot of Roses Publishing House for bringing this powerful collection into the world.

And thank you to Medicine for Nightmares for holding space for visionary stories rooted in Xicanx futures. We're grateful we were able to pick up a copy of "High Aztech" by Ernest Hogan.

We’re sharing a few glimpses here, the group photo from the night, the cover page of “uberXfrontera,” and a panel from the comic that asks:

“But, what if I don’t have a passport?”

The conversation continues. The future is borderless.🚀

With gratitude and excitement,
Dr. EC & Ronnie Dukes

We at DUKEScomics are proud to celebrate Dr. E C Dukes (Elvira Carrizal-Dukes, PhD) and her recognition at the 2025 International Latino Book Awards!

Her eBook Cholx Counterstory received the Silver Medal for Best eBook, with judges noting it is “engaging and well-written.” We’re grateful to all who contributed their voices, stories, and art — this honor belongs to the community that made it possible.

We also celebrate Marcos Molina, a 15-year-old student we mentored, who earned an Honorable Mention for The Dino Dudes: A Prehistoric Adventure in the “Charlie Ericksen Best Book Written by a Youth” category.

Dr. Dukes also contributed to Somos Xicanas, edited by Luz Schweig and published by Riot of Roses Publishing House — winner of two ILBA medals!

Congratulations to all ILBA honorees — every story shared strengthens our collective voice.

We are grateful for these opportunities to create and collaborate, and we look forward to continuing to tell our stories through art, comics, and community.
