Politico Pro--an ONLINE product--is launching a PRINT magazine to drive subs. Pretty cool strategy.

Politico announced subscriber numbers to its premium product, Politico Pro, on Tuesday: 1,000 organizations now pay for the subscription site, with about 7,000 employees a month reading it.

Here's a hopeful switch: a newspaper that's hiring new editorial staffers and expanding its efforts in print!

The suburban Los Angeles paper is expanding its newsroom and emphasizing print over digital. Trying to dig the Register out of a financial hole, the new owners see promise in an expanded print edition with more color and more content.

Geeky but important: ReadWrite's helpful translation of this technical discussion clarifies the role of HTML5 in creating "Web apps" for smart phones, tablets, and other such mobile platforms. Digital publishers need to grok this.

Chris Heilmann, principle developer evangelist at Mozilla, aims to bust some of the negative myths that have cropped up around HTML5 on the mobile Web. All the problems can be solved, he says, if Apple, Google, Microsoft and the rest will just stop shutting out HTML5.
