Prayer is simply the act of pausing to tune the strings.
Amen for Share
It is not a performance. You don't tune an instrument for the audience to applaud; you do it so the instrument can be what it was made to be.
When we kneel in prayer, or whisper to God on our morning commute, we are going back to the Master Musician. We are saying, "Lord, I have been bumped around by the world today. My patience is loose; my hope is sharp. Will You bring me back to harmony?"
- The Gentle adjustments
Have you ever noticed that God rarely yells? In the Bible, He was found not in the earthquake or the fire, but in the "still, small voice."
Prayer is how we hear that whisper. When we stop talking and start listening, God begins to make those gentle adjustments to our souls.
He loosens the tension of our fear.
He tightens the slack of our laziness.
He corrects the pitch of our anger until it turns into compassion.
It doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in the quiet moments. It is the peace that settles over you when you finally hand your worries over to Him. It is the sudden clarity that comes after a time of confusion. That is the Master’s hand, tuning your heart.
- Come as You Are
Please remember: You do not need to be "in tune" before you pray. You do not need to clean yourself up or pretend to be happy before you speak to God.
If you are sad, bring your sadness. That is a valid note.
If you are doubtful, bring your questions. God is not afraid of them.
If you are just so incredibly tired that you cannot find words, just bring your breath.
Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." He didn't say, "Come to me when you have it all together."
- A Prayer for Today
So today, if the noise of the world feels overwhelming, try to find just five minutes of silence. Step away from the screens. Look out a window at the sky, or close your eyes.
Let your prayer be simple:
"God, I am here. The world is loud, but I want to hear You. Tune my heart to Your peace. Remind me that I am loved, so that I can love others well today."
And then, listen.
He is there. He is listening. And He is gently restoring the song in your soul.
Peace be with you.
