Highway 1 at Regent’s Slide has been closed for nearly 3 years. It was scheduled to open in March 2026 but there’s a big chance it’ll reopen *earlier* than expected—possibly by the New Year 🎉

While there is no official date yet, Caltrans says progress is ahead of schedule and (weather permitting) could open the road in the next few weeks.

The opening would mean you can finally drive the whole length of Highway 1 between the north and south ends of Big Sur — no inland detour required.

A walk down Main Street in Los Alamos, CA.
This is one of those places you’re sure to hear me talk about a lot in the coming months (years?). I have a vague memory of stopping here once, maybe 10+ years ago on a drive between Santa Barbara and San Francisco.
“Ain’t nothing here but a saloon.” I thought then.
That couldn’t be further from today. The saloon still stands (as a private event space) but is joined by a Michelin-starred restaurant, , a wonderful, women-owned winery, , barbecue spot , and a bunch of cute shops like and .
Which is to say: save this post, because this little ol’ town is worthy of a detour, pit stop, or weekend getaway. You may still see a tumble w**d or two—but hey, we like it that way. 🤠
Have you been? What did you like most?

You, me, martinis at ? 🍸

Once a favorite hangout of Hollywood icons like Joan Crawford and Bing Crosby, this Carmel-by-the-Sea landmark recently got a refresh, but kept all its old-school charm. Love the fireplace, great music, and moody lighting. I’d argue it’s Carmel’s coziest bar for a chilly coastal night.

VISIT + WHAT TO KNOW
📍 Inside La Playa Carmel (hotel guests + walk-ins welcome)
🍸 Famous for its “Bud’s Martini”, served icy cold, with house-stuffed olives.
🍸 They have a “Dime Time” happy hour (typically around 5pm) where for ten minutes only, classic martinis are just 10¢ when you order another drink; a quirky throwback to the hotel’s early days
🍸 Best seat = at the bar or tucked into a cozy booth

One of the most unforgettable hotel views in all of Napa Valley. ✨

is a five-suite luxury hideaway overlooking Napa’s Stags Leap District, with sweeping vineyard views, huge rooms (each with an outdoor shower!), and the kind of service that makes you feel so taken care of.

Mornings start with a delicious house-made breakfast. Afternoons might take you wine tasting at nearby .rutherford.estate —just down the hill and under the same ownership. And at sunset? You’ll want to stay out. Pour a glass and watch the light fade over the valley from your private terrace.

Yes, it’s a splurge but for a special occasion, so memorable. Would you stay here?
