thrilled to release the second edition of ’s Good Listener: Meditations on Music and Pauline Oliveros featuring a new orange colorway. 🍊we also made some Good Listener hats for the occasion, for all the sonically attuned in our lives. now available via smingsming.com / link in bio! 💫

bookstores can get copies thru our US distributor / Itasca Books. soon available in UK/EU thru 🙏🏼

Good Listener: Meditations on Music and Pauline Oliveros is a performance-in-writing of Oliveros’s Sonic Meditation XXI—a text score in the form of a question: “What constitutes your musical universe?” Michael Ned Holte responds to this brief but expansive prompt with a daily meditation that focuses attention on the work of Oliveros—the revolutionary composer, feminist and q***r icon, and Deep Listening theorist—but expands outward to consider the author’s own evolving relationship to music and sound. As a performance that documents its own making, the text also serves as a reflection on time, memory, improvisation, silence, solitude, loss, friendship, teaching, visual art, taste, and material culture, among many other subjects summoned in its daily pursuit.

Congrats for being selected as one of Foundation’s Honored Authors for this year’s Authors Dinner!

The Foundation’s Annual Authors Dinner is a unique cultural event that honors local authors and spotlights the Bay Area’s literary tradition, with proceeds going to the Berkeley Public Library.

A first-generation Chicano painter and illustrator, Héctor Muñoz-Guzmán is the author of Brown Eyes from Russell Street, tracing his artistic practice during a transformative period in his life. His art is rooted in the stories of working-class Mexican American communities, particularly in the Bay Area. Beginning with intimate collages of family photographs, Mesoamerican imagery, and found materials, he builds complex compositions that layer memory, heritage, and place. After completing his foundation year at Parsons School of Design and studying painting at Rhode Island School of Design, he paused his formal education due to a bipolar diagnosis and financial hardship, but he continued to develop his craft. In 2024, he entered the MFA program at UC Berkeley.
