SURVIVORS TEASER a film by WeOwnTV
Through the eyes of Sierra Leonean filmmaker Arthur Pratt, Survivors presents a heart-connected portrait of his country during the Ebola outbreak, exposing the complexity of the epidemic and the socio-political turmoil that lies in its wake. Survivors chronicles the remarkable stories of Sierra Leoneans during what is now widely regarded as the most acute public health crisis of the modern era. Survivors interweaves the heroic stories of Mohamed Bangura, the senior ambulance driver at the country’s main emergency vehicle dispatch; and, Margaret Kabba Sesay, a nurse who works at the Emergency Ebola Treatment Center, caring for some of the sickest patients.
Through intimate verite footage of these characters’ daily lives and Arthur’s first-person account of his own family's experience, the film not only explores how the epidemic ravaged families and communities, but also exposed broken infrastructures, deep misunderstandings between international aid organizations and the communities they serve, as well as unresolved political tensions after the decade-long civil war. In this way, Survivors profoundly wrestles with what it means to be Sierra Leonean at this critical juncture in the country’s history.

Rethinking the collection. “How can we today view a collection which offers glimpses of South Africa’s past through a colonial lens?” Arthur strolls Lady Anne Barnard’s banquet hall built in the 1930s at Castle of a Good Hope.

We wanted to share this scene of arthur giving a sermon which didn’t make it to our final cut, but beautifully reflects Arthur’s compassionate spirit.
"I hope we all remember to show compassion to the people of Congo who are going through now what we went through. Africa has gone through wars, diseases, pestilence and unthinkable situations Africa will come out as the Victor. From Sierra Leone to Sudan from Libya to South Africa from Congo to Rwanda and Burundi we shall overcome the darkness of wars and diseases. Our stories will stand the test of time and the rest of humanity will not only remember us but will make our resilience and sheared humanity their point of reference for all ages. Viva SURVIVORS." - Arthur Victor Alexandia Pratt

Introducing Mohamed B Bangura
Introducing Mohamed B Bangura. Mohamed was the senior ambulance driver at Sierra Leone's main ambulance dispatch location during the entirety of the Ebola outbreak. He is one of only two surviving drivers who worked from the earliest days of the outbreak.
"In the world there are only two things: either the good, or the bad. So when you hear a name on the radio, or when they publish a name, either they know you for good or they know you for bad. Some men say their goodness runs from here to city center. But if you really know somebody, you know they’re never entirely good... It's what you do that makes somebody trust you."
We know the word hero gets thrown around these days, but Mohamed truely deserves that distinction. Thank you Mohamed for your selfless service to Mama Salone - from all of us at WeOwnTV.
