Today’s opening of the Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton marks a significant moment in our collective history.

This monument stands as a memorial to the thousands of innocent lives that were taken during the Sri Lankan government’s genocide against the Tamil people.

It also honours the strength and resilience of Tamil communities around the world, whose dedicated advocacy has brought us to this moment.

I would like to thank the National Council of Canadian Tamils - NCCT, the Brampton Tamil Association - Canada, Mayor Patrick Brown, and all those who fought to ensure our stories are never forgotten.

As we continue to call for justice for these atrocities, let us stand strong, and let us stand together.
